I visit Istanbul twice a year and I've stayed at several hotels. Ares Hotel is the worst of all.

The owner asked us to pay in advance whereas whe did not even see the room.

The rooms have nothing to do with the pictures on the website.
Rooms are so small that you can hardly go from the bed to the toilets.

The bathroom has not been cleaned propperly during our stay (mold in the bath tub, and spots on the mirror).

WiFi worked only 2 days during the whole week. We tried to restart it but it still did not work.

The breakfast is NOT a buffet. It is served in individual plate and is very poor. 1 sugar per person. sugar seems to be taken off someone else's plate since it is spotted and dirty. Same for the slice of cheese, that had obviously been taken off from someone who did not eat it.

The owner is obsessed with saving money.

There are plenty of hotels in Istanbul, you do NOT need to go to this one.

Just stayed at Ares hotel with my two daughters, aged 21 and 23, for a five day holiday in Istanbul.

It's a small hotel in the heart of the historic - and tourist - area. Great location for sightseers: the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Architectural Museum, Roman underground water system all within 500 metres. Two minutes walk from hotel to the tram system linking to wider city and to metro.

The hotel is cheap and cheerful. There are not elegant tapestries or designer furniture, but if there were, you'd have to pay a lot more. Rooms were clean , beds comfortable, all plumbing worked etc. Breakfast plentiful, omelettes excellent, and ea/coffee/cold water/Coke etc available all day for free.

Being a small hotel, you quickly get to know the staff; several have worked there for years, so it runs smoothly. They are very friendly – and never pushy.

Ares is on a narrow side street, so not much traffic. Less noisy than most nearby hotels but still many passers by. We did not find it noisy but perhaps it can be on the first floor at the front. Restaurants close late and people wander the streets 'til the early hours.

We ate only breakfast there; it was simple but plentiful; teas/coffee/soft drinks available through the day at no cost - a good perk for when you want to sit to think out your next short trip, or return at the end of a hot day's sightseeing.

They have a roof top (as we as ground floor) restaurant for lunch and supper; it was hot during our stay, but too windy for rooftop dining, so can't comment on the food, but the view from the roof is good - of towers of ancient mosques and the general bustle of the old city.

Room Tip: Above the first floor (less noisy), and at the front - looking over the street life below.

I have stayed at ARES hotel for 3 nights. It is at the center of sultanahmet area.Location can't be beaten.10 min walk to grand bazar, 2 min walk for the blue mosk and the tram station, where you will be connected to different parts of istanbul. All the streets surrounding this hotel are full of good resturants and cafes. We were 2 persons,Ayham,a very helpful and nice gentleman, offered us an upgraded triple room and was a good advisor. Also the boss was a cheerful guy.All the staff have done their best to fulfill our requirements to make our stay comfortable as possible.I will definitly return to ARES hotel at my next visit to istanbul.Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Always choose a room with a balcony view

A very good service. From the reservation and marketing manager Mr. Ayhan to their restaurant staff who are very accommodating, and friendly to us during our stay. Even helped us arrange our bosphorus tour, airport pick ups and not to forget their free turkish & apple tea. A very strategic location, just a stones throw from the Basilica Cistern, blue mosque and Hagia Sofia. We'll definitely come back and recommend Ares Hotel to our friends who are planning to visit this amazing country.
