Our group of six stayed at Hotel Amira for two nights, and found it to have the best service of any hotel we've ever experienced. tThe staff is incredibly freindly and helpful. Our wlecome included wine on the rooftop terrace while we learned about travel options in istanbul, and the service extended to making reservations, giving directions, offering advice about cabs, and giving us tips about bargaining with shopkeepers. Special kudos to Spenser, Arthur, and Asiz! In the commotion of loeaving, one of our group left his cellphone at the hotel, and the hotel had it delivered to us at the cruise ship before we'd even had a chance to call! Hotel Amira's breakfast buffet is extensive and very good, and the rooms are fine. The rooftop terrace offers tremendous views of istanbul and the sea, and is a delightful spot for refreshments after a long day of touring. The hotel is only a short walk to main sites in the old town, such as Haggia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, and there's a cab stand across the street so you can get transportation easily to anywhere in the city.

We arrived early after disembarking from our cruise ship. So we sat on the roof terrace for several hours until our room was ready. Very nice view of the Sea of Marmara. The staff is definitely the hotel's strong point. Everyone was extremely helpful. For example, they made several calls to restaurants to make reservations and change reservation times. Our deluxe room was high up and so very quiet, with excellent light and space. The included buffet breakfast was excellent, and the hotel also provided light refreshments at tea time between 4 and 6 PM.

Be careful of Istanbul taxi drivers. We asked the hotel to get us one for a trip to a restaurant outside the old city. The cab driver did not turn on his meter, and then took us in the wrong direction and dropped us at the wrong restaurant even though I showed him directions printed from google maps. I complained at the hotel desk, but since I had not gotten the taxi's number, there was not much they could do -- but the very accommodating manager did refund our taxi fare. We made extensive use of the tram, a great alternative to taking taxis.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor.

These guys saved us from our horrible hotel across the street. Everything was excellent. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast provided was very good. We also enjoyed spending time on the rooftop terrace. The location is a short walk to the mosques and the grand bazaar. This was the best hotel of our 2 week Europe trip.

Having booked our own transfer, we arrived at the Hotel Amira and were greeted by the warmest of receptions. I have been to many hotels and never had such a good welcome, you couldn't help but feel instantly at home.

We were taken through to the dinning area where were offered pastries, teas, coffees and Turkish Delights, a member of staff then marked on a map for us all of the usual tourist sites and asked if there were any other sites we needed to find; (all the time I was waiting for the 'big sell' but there wasn't one), we were left to enjoy our afternoon nibbles and then shown to our room. Incidentally, afternoon tea is available for free every day.

I was a little disappointed with the location of our room which was in the basement, however the room was perfectly good and immaculately clean, even if the view was of the fire escape. I soon realised that the view made no difference as we were out and about all day and then spent our evenings on the roof terrace taking in the views..

For me the big treat with this hotel was the attitude of the staff and the location of the hotel.
I can't wait to head back to Istanbul. :-)

Room Tip: The hotel is on a slope, so Floor 1 is actually partly basement.

We were fortunate enough to stay in this hotel on the last night of our holiday in Turkey. Nothing was too much trouble for the wonderfully friendly and amazing staff. We arrived early, they minded our luggage (there was 8 of us), gave us directions and maps, told us about the free afternoon tea (the food was home made and beautiful) and they even had happy hour. The beds were so comfortable (most of the hotels we stayed in had very hard mattresses) and the rooms were spotlessly clean. Happy hour on the rooftop balcony was magical with stunning views of the sun setting over the Bosphorus. Some of our group were not booking in as they were flying out in the evening and extra towles were supplied so they could shower before they left. I order champagne (it was our wedding anniversary) and this was supplied complimentary with a chocolate and strawberry fondue. Again, the next day they stored our luggage and supplied us with a complimentary room to freshen up befor our long flight back to Australia.

After an exhaustive search for a special place to stay in Istanbul, I decided upon the Amira. Initial enquires were answered promptly and I arranged a private transfer from the Ataturk airport as we were arriving late in the afternoon. Initially it took some time to locate the transfer agent as our name was not on a Hotel Amira placard but typed on an A4 sheet at the bottom of a list of other names. Anyway, after approx. a 10 minute wait we were shown to our car & driver. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a team of very friendly staff and Alexander offered to talk us through what to do in Istanbul and show us the terrace etc. He was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic in answering a lot of questions from me. The room was comfortable but the bathroom (shower room) was tiny. If this is read by the hotel, then please try and sort out the mould in the shower tray (402). There were nice touches such as bath robes, slippers and tea making equipment. Complimentary water was supplied daily, however, one day we did have the previous day’s empty bottle returned with the complimentary tag around the neck! My partner stood on a pin hidden in the rug and I got a staple in my foot, the view was great though and despite other reviewers suggesting earplugs, I am a light sleeper and was not at all bothered by the early call to prayer. Breakfast was fantastic and all we could ask for as well as the complimentary afternoon tea. The terrace was perfection. Lots of nice furniture with comfy cushions and a cool selection of low key music playing in the background – superb. The complimentary use of the WI-FI and computer (where you could also print out your boarding passes) was appreciated. Location is within a short walking distance of all the major sights and close to the Sultanahmet train station where a return airport journey is easily accessible.

Room Tip: 402 was small but had a great view and close to access for the terrace

Everything you read in the reviews was true for us, too, so this review contains three tips.

1. Upgrade to a room with a balcony. The roof deck is lovely, but a balcony of your own is magical.
2. If you have old eyes and like to read sitting up in a chair, bring your little book light with you because the general lighting in the room is not bright.
3. If you want a washcloth, just ask.

This is the ideal hotel for a first visit to Istanbul when you want to see everything you've always heard about. It is in a great location near all the major attractions and the tram, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a balcony. 404 was great.
