When in Istanbul, you can easily do a local ferry trip on the Bosphorus, it really gives one a better sense of this gateway between Asia and Europe. You can also see much of the Bosphorus on a ferry trip to the Princess islands, 1 hour away.

The cruise we took was a little "shady". We should have shopped around a little more. There weren't enough seats for everyone in the covered area of the boat (and it was cool and raining). I didn't feel that the boat was the safest vessel either. I wish I could remember the name but I can't. I advise you to shop around and maybe get a look at the boat before booking a cruise.

A cool ride on a ferry to see the sites of Istanbul's city harbors is a pleasure on a hot day. The Bosphorus is a working river, with many cargo ships sharing space with ferries and pleasure cruise boats. An excellent time to relax and enjoy a cool breeze and a cold drink.

You have not seen Istanbul, if you do not take a boat ride along the Bosphorus. It is just breathtaking! If you have time, take the big ride that goes all the way to the opening of black sea. But there are pleanty of choices.....from just a shortt tour that lasts an hour, to hop on hop off tours where you can visit some historical palaces, to dinner tours in the evening. Just ask your hotel reception what is being offered at the time of the year. Just do not miss a boat ride along the strait.

Both my hotels looked over this area and I did take a boat trip of about one and a half hours on the Bosphorus. Surprisingly, it was really enjoyable although the boat became quite crowded.

A good photograph opportunity, and a way of seeing parts of Istanbul from the water.
