“Great Hotel with great hospitality”
Reviewed March 10, 2011

The hotel staff was great and very helpful with recommendations on the sights to visit. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom is spacious and clean. During my stay in early February 2011, there was some minor ongoing renovation next door in the afternoon, but the hotel staff was quick to apologize and informed me that the noise will stop after working hours. We arrived in the morning and were treated to breakfast while we wait for the room to be ready. The location is good as it is at a quiet street away from the main street, yet easily assessible and very central, it's a very pleasant walk to the Sultanahmet tram station. Overall very happy with our stay, and my family really felt at home in the hotel.

We stayed for a week at the Hotel Seraglio in Sultanahment. There were so many good things abou this hotel!

1) Location. - It's literally a 6 minute walk from the famous Sultanahmet square that has some of the most famous sites of Istanbul. (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, TopKapi Palace, The Basilica Roman Cistern) Also - it's a 1 minute walk to a bunch of restaurants that are quite reasonable.
2) Hotel is QUIET. The rooms in the hotel face each other, and not the street so it's really quiet and you get good sleep (even with the 6 am prayer call)
3) Rooms were quite LARGE! My sister and I stayed in a standard room and it had a desk, the bed was spacious, the bathroom was quite large! the shower and water pressure was great. Also - each floor has its own wi-fi which makes it super fast. and wi-fi is free
4) Free TEA TIME was GREAT (everyday from 5- 7 pm) We drank our weight in Elma cay *apple tea*
5) Breakfast selection was really good. Breakfast is free and it was great because they ahd a wide selection of foods and it was fresh

Last but not the least..our hotel staff was SO nice. We didn't have an adapter, and they gave us one to keep for the trip! They even had several different kinds for us to choose from. They were very helpful as they guided us where to go, recommended certain sites, and restaurants. They even helped us when we had a mini-altercation with some Turkish men..they were protective :) Honestly - the service is awesome and it goes to show that you DON'T need to stay at a 5-star hotel to get good service! My sister and I have always stayed at budget hotels wherever we go and we definitely got our money's worth at Hotel Seraglio.

So if you're ever in Istanbul and want to stay in the historic section of Istanbul - Hotel Seraglio is the place to be!

To Ali, Kenan, Cagri, Mehmet and Jalal - We had an amazing time in Istanbul, and thanks so much for being so nice and accomodating! Tesekkür ederim! ;)

Stayed here last week for 4 nights, which entitled us to a free airport pickup from Ataturk airport. We had a deluxe room, which was very nice and quite spacious. The hotel is located within a couple of minutes walk of The Blue Mosque and Haggia Sophia and a few minutes walk from the Tokapi Palace. It is in a quiet and quaint cobbled backstreet. The staff are very helpful and give a little talk on arrival to explain the sights etc. We arrived early, having an early morning flight but our room was available, however, the first thing they did was give us breakfast (this was not included for the day we arrived but was given free of charge). The only minus for this room was that they were doing building work on the other side of the wall to our room during the day and the noise was horrendous, but at night you could hear a pin drop, I have never stayed in such a quiet hotel room at night. Also they could have done with some heating in the bathroom and the room was cold during the day as they must turn it off until about 5pm when they expect people to return. Between 5pm and 7pm they serve complimentary coffee\tea and cakes. They have flat screen TVs which is nice, but only one english channel (BBC news), there aren't many Turkish channels either they are mainly Italian (ok for me but if you don't know Italian could be a problem). I would reccommend this hotel whole heartedly, the daytime noise would obviously only be when there is work, which is probably finished now, and the heating issue is only during the day when the weather is very cold (as it was last week). This is a lovely, friendly, helpful and convenient hotel.

Dear linedanceangel,

I would like to thank you for your kind feedback that you have shared on Tripadvisor.
I am very glad about your good comments on Hotel Seraglio. About your early check-in and having breakfast on your checkin day
thats routine for us. We never promise for early c - in since with just 14 rooms and we cant be sure about our availibility in advance but if possible we never say no and never charge extra for early c-in for up to 2-3 hours.
We just have 14 rooms and 9 staff working for our Hotel ; off course we need to make money for our livings but it is not about it. As we call our Hotel '' A Family Home in The Heart of Old Istanbul'' we really mean it. So we never search ways for extra or hidden charges for our Guests since you are our Guest not a Customer....

About the inconvenience that you had because of the noise next door, you are right and we are really sorry about it. Our neighbour next door has been renewing the Hotel before the High season starts.
Because of our good relations with them they werent start working before noon (11:30 - 12:00 am) and stoped at 17:00. Still it was a big problem for us but finally they are done with the main work which caused noise.Right now they are doing painting, cleaning, etc. So for us IT IS OVER...

For the channels on tv as long as you dont change the satelite (which had to be fixed to HOT BIRD which is very easy to choose or change it) there are lots of english, spanish, italian, russian channels etc. I wish you had asked us about it since it is very easy to reset. Thank you for informing us so we can put more attention on that during the c-in of the our future guests

About the heating we are using VRF system for the heating which is an advanced technology (just like most of the luxury, chain , five-star hotels use) in which it is central but at the same time rooms can set their own temperatures 24 hrs. We heve energy savers in every room as long as you are in the room everything works, electricity goes off once you leave the room. We dont maunually turn off anything but it is automatically turns off when you leave. But the machines are so strong that it will take 5 to 10 minutes to warm the room back again. Our guests can manage your rooms temperature up to 28 Celcius (82 Fahrenheit). Still if you could mention us we would give you an extra energy card to leave it in your room. I think the system is good solution to save some energy for the enviroment. But for your comfort which is actually our main issue we will be giving you an extra energy card for your next stay with us.

So thank you for your kindness again and looking forward to see you at Hotel Seraglio in future again...

We spent 4 days from Valentines Day last Monday to the Friday. On arriving in the morning just before ten the receptionist, and I am useless with names, sorry, took charge of our cases and said " Right before you go to your room, which is already prepared , go and have some breakfast, then I will tell you all about the area and then show you your room.

Well after getting up at 4.00 am the breakfast was most welcome. And I had asked for champagne and a red rose to be placed in the room.............which it was ....
Nothing was too much trouble. This was the quietest and most comfortable hotel room ever. Even with the morning prayers, my partner actually SLEPT.....which is a first.
The afternoon coffee and cakes ON THE HOUSE were most welcome as was the advise on getting to the airport, which was tram and metro.......instead of " oh we will call you a cab ".
highly recommend this hotel.

Having only 14 rooms, Seraglio is a nice, quiet, beautiful place to stay in the Sultanahmet area in Istanbul. The hotel staffs are very helpful. They will try hard to make guests feel at home. It's nestled in the quieter area, yet only around 5-10 minutes walk away from all the attractions. I highly recommend Seraglio to all planning to visit Istanbul.

We chose Seraglio for our stay in Istanbul and left very happy with our choice! The hotel looks small from the outside, but once you are in, you realize that it takes up two buildings connected with a covered walkway. We chose this hotel for its hamam rooms: rooms with marble bathrooms with heated floors, benches, and walls with the full hamam setup: marble big bowl for water, small bronze bowls for rinsing, super bubbly soap, and a wash cloth in addition to all the usual amenities.

The staff turned on the hammam in the morning, so it was nice and hot for our arrival. We were exhausted after the trip, but after a few minutes lying on the marble benches, followed by a thorough wash and scrub, we were ready to face the world again! We would do hammam every night and it was wonderful, except for one little issue: we were so looking forward to relaxing on the heated benches that we were cutting our Istanbul sightseeing short for yet more time in our room :)

The room itself was large and beautiful with high ceilings, new furniture, good choice of pillows, comfortable bed, big LCD TV with a good choice of sat channels, a small safe, mini-bar, good heating/a/c unit, fast WiFi, etc. One thing that might be a nuisance for a light sleeper in a busier season is lack of noise insulation of windows and the door.

Most rooms look out onto houses on the other side of the street, but we overheard someone telling that the view from the rooms on the top floor is just magnificent (Blue Mosque or Marmara Sea).

The entire hotel has interesting compositions throughout, so the breakfast area looks very pleasant. Breakfast buffet was very good: a lot of choices both for Turkish breakfast (5-6 types of cheese, 2 types of olives, white, grey, marble, brown bread, etc) and traditional English, including eggs any type (incl. omelette) made to order. Oh, and don't forget cheese, chocolate crepes and strawberry, chocolate heart-shaped pancakes :) Freshly squeezed juice was 2 EUR extra. Oh, don't forget that they have tea time every evening in their bistro with free tea, coffee, and various tasty sweets.

The staff was very professional, pleasant to talk with, provided a lot of information about the area (their list of opening times for all major attractions was a necessity for planning our days), tickets, and tours. The hotel is 3-5 minutes walk in various directions from everything, including the tram for getting to other parts of town.

We very much enjoyed the hotel and, if in Istanbul again, will be sure to stay there again!

Our room at Hotel Seraglio was exactly as we had requested, with a large balcony and was extremely comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean, the bathroom generously-sized and the king bed and TV made for a very comfortable resting place after our 23 hours travel from Melbourne. We arrived at the back door of the hotel and were let in by the very friendly and helpful manger Kenan, who immediately offered us an Apple Tea (which I am now addicted to). The staff were more than helpful at every turn and always willing to offer advice. The breakfast each morning was a veritable banquet of more than you could imagine (6 different types of cheeses and freshly prepared omelettes). Seraglio is located in the older area of Sultanahmet but is walking distance to all of the sights (Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace and Ayasofya) . We would definitely return should we visit Istanbul again as the prices are fantastic in comparison to other pensions and guesthouses we have stayed at in Turkey.
