“A gem in Sultanahmet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2010

We opted for the deluxe room which is twice the size of the standard room. It was so spacious and clean. The bathroom was new and cool-looking and spotless. The room contained this great wardrobe for people like me who don’t like to unpack and put things in drawers. It had a lower level for me to put my entire suitcase in and big cubbyholes for me to shove clothing and other stuff in. This way I could see right away where my stuff was. Not necessary for home use but perfect for hotel use.

Although it was in the touristy crowded Sultanahmet neighborhood, our hotel was off a side street and you could hear a pin drop at nighttime. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. The breakfasts were fantastic including custom omelets! This made a happy change from all the hard-boiled eggs I had been eating at other hotels.

Next time I am in Istanbul, I will definitely book here again. I have already recommended it to a friend who will be in Istanbul in December . (Deluxe double, #101)

We stayed for four nights in the Seraglio, which included free airport transfer. The hotel very good located for exploring Sultanahmet. Major attractions and tramway are in walking distance. We were not entirely happy with our room because it was on the somewhat noisy street side next to the elevator. This was no problem so we moved to a smaller room overlooking the courtyard. We had to go back to our initial room because we forgot some stuff. The front desk helped us time after time.

Breakfast is extensive, including warm and cold dishes, Turkish and more international fare.

The only downside is that the ventilation system is the bathroom humms 24/7 and that the rooms are smallish. The big plus is the friendly, helpfull and eloquent staff at the front desk.

We spent 3 nights here and had a great stay. The location is in easy walking distance of all the major sights and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and was very good. The only drawback was the rather treacherous winding staircase.

Upon arrival we were offered Turkisch coffee and got advice on were to go and see. Breakfast was fresh and varied. The room was spacious with a large shower. The hotel looked brand new (7 months old) and clean.
One minor point was the noice of the vans on the roof, which prohibited us to open a window at night. But airconditioning was available.
We definitely recommend this hotel.

Everything about the hotel was excellent. The staff were very pleasant, the rooms were clean, modern and very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was delicious with a huge variety of hot and cold dishes. The hotel itself is ideally located in one of the main tourist areas and is less than 5 minutes walk from the tram line which connects to the rest of the public transport system. As we stayed 5 nights the hotel provided us with a free shuttle service to and from the airport, which was much appreciated. We would definitely go back to this hotel and have recommended it to all our friends and family, lone travellers included.

We booked this hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor & were not dissapointed.

The hotel's location is perfect -- a couple blocks from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia. One of the best parts of our European trip was waking up early in the morning and walking by the Mosque before any of the tourists/crowds infiltrated the area.

It's also in a great area for dinner - with several quaint restaurants on cobble-stone streets -- although beware of tourist restaurants that hike up the prices and are filled with americans with cameras. We ate at a local "Meat House", and despite its name was delicious and filled with locals.

The service in the hotel was great - they let us check in before 10am and even gave us turkish coffee while we waited for our room to be ready.

Definitely would recommend as a good-value place to make your homebase in Istanbul.

One note -- you will wake up (around 5am) to sounds of praying from the mosque. I actually thought that added to the experience, but my husband found it annoying since it lasts about 20 minutes.

I travel a lot and never had an experience like this one... this is a new and small hotel, very clean, good rooms, PERFECT location (walking distance from all the major spots: Ayia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Archeological Museum, Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, everything...) the staff was the best I've ever met. More than hotel staff they were true friends. Thank you all Celal, Akun, Kenan and Mehmet. You guys are the BEST staff ever. You've made our stay PERFECT. The room was large, very, very clean, good breakfast. I felt like family there. I hope to return Istanbul and I will choose again Seraglio. No doubt! I miss you all
