“It's a World Heriage Area for many reasons”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

The Spice Market, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sofia and the Topkapi Palace are all well worth visiting. The first two are free, with appropriate clothing necessary for the mosque. The others have a fee - but get there early (eg 9 am) if you want to avoid long queues. History is all about you.

See the Grand Bazaar but don't buy anything there. Also, try to avoid the pesky souvenir salesmen who pester you everywhere!

However, definitely try the hot salep drink, made of dried powdered roots of a mountain orchid, milk, sugar, cinnamon, rose water and sometimes coconut. delicious and different.

“Roman remains”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

It is hard to picture whatConstantinople would have been like with its huge palace, hippodrome etc. Part of the hippodrome remains, and wonderful mosaics from the palace are to be seen in the mosaic museum near the Blue Mosque. The Million Marker does not look remarkable but is is incredible to find that it was. 4th century distance marker to places in the Roman Empire.

“So much culture...”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

So much to learn about this fantastic city called Istambul or Istanbul in local language. Definitely a plus to visit the major areas in the old town: Grand Bazaar, Spices Market, Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, etc.

Loved the history hated the constant hassle from people trying to sell stuff. Most of the main sights are close together but the queues are a bit off-putting though proved quicker than expected.

“The most amazing place I have ever been”
Reviewed May 12, 2014

Istanbul is phenomenal. I have traveled all over the world and visited many places, but Istanbul literally took my breath away. The sheer magnitude of history that has happened here is almost dizzying. If you love history and culture and food, this is the right place to visit. The 4 days that I was able to spend in this wonderful city were not enough and I cannot wait to go back and see more. I am truly in awe of this marvelous city.
