Istanbul Small-Group Walking Tour: Hagia Sophia...

An amazing city to visit with its rich history from Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Galata Tower, Grand Bizaar and the diversity of people that converge whereby the saying of East meets West was coined. You will be surprised, breathless and left wanting more. You can either; walk around (for the true die hard walkers) bus with the hop on tours, taxi or take the bright red tram down Istiklal street. There are plenty of coffee shops and eateries along the way. If you want to try a traditional Turkish coffee do visit their coffee and smoke houses. Definetly a city that has to be visited more than once.

This area is the old city, where history is measured in millennia, not centuries as North America are accustomed to thinking. This is the area of Istanbul where many of the major attractions are concentrated, not only Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque but many other sights as well. This is where you want to go first of all when you arrive in Istanbul. You can spend several days here and still not see everything.

I wish I were still there. I've never been anywhere where there was so much to do and so much to see, everywhere we turned.

The Historic Areas of Istanbul were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.

It includes locations such as the Galata Bridge, the Seraglio Point where the Topkapı Palace, the Hagia Sophia, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, the Yeni Mosque near the Galata Bridge, the Beyazıt Tower and the Süleymaniye Mosque.

The World Heritage site covers four zones, illustrating the major phases of the city's history using its most prestigious monuments:
