Now that I'm back from Istanbul, it's definitely the Sultanahmet area that was the most memorable. Every corner you turn there's a beautiful mosque or some other building. Though the Blue Mosque has to be visited in between prayer times, the street behind it with the mosaic museum is so cute and worth a look. That is if you're not too busy with Hagia Sophia or the Grand Bazaar.

Simply amazing. When in Istanbul, it is imperative that you walk around and get a sense of the place, its history, its diversity, and its beauty. Walk from the New Mosque to the Grand Bazaar and across the Galata Bridge you can wind through very European alleys and sidestreets until you reach Galata Tower.

We visited Hagia Sophia Museum, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque and felt like we were in the old times. Luckily we visited Istanbul in February and it was not very crowded.
