First, there are two basic places where the hotels & hostels are. One is the Sea of Marmara side of the tram (T1) tracks (same side as Blue Mosque/hippodrome), and the other on the golden horn side (same side of the tracks as the grand bazar). From maps, you can not tell the difference. when we arrived in Isanbul we stayed on the marmara side. Don't do it. It is dark and steep, and not much there.

City hostel is in a excellent location. Bright, and right in the center of it all.

It is a dorm hostel, but it is clean. I saw them clean. They do an excellent job. Nice people.

This is the cleanliest dorm I have stayed in my Turkey trip. The white interior of the dorm gave fresh and clean feelings. Bed was comfy. There were four double deckers in the room with lockers and private bathroom per room.

Price is reasonable. Location is good, about 100m away from Sultanahmet tram station. Walking distance to Blue Mosque, Agya Sophia & Topkapi Palace. 15 mins walking distance to Grand Bazaar, or 20 mins to Spice Bazaar.

Recommend this place if you're planning to stay at Sultanahmet area.

Room Tip: The dorm is fresh, new and clean, equipped with individual sockets and reading light per bed.

LOCATION
Excellent! Just one or two minutes from the metro exit.

FACILITIES
Everybody has his electricity outlet and reading lamp. The cleanliness is okay.

PROBLEMS
1. The WiFi signal in the most of the rooms (except the room in the lowest level) is almost disappear. You have to go to the lobby to use the internet.
2. The breakfast is so-so.
3. The quality of the staff is not stable (maybe depend on his mood?). For example, I want to know the WiFi password, and they told me to find the other guests in the hostel then went away!

Room Tip: Rooms in the lowest level maybe better.

PROS: Great location for seeing everything in Sultanahmet, one block from a tram stop, unobtrusive staff, all new paint and furniture and tile and bathroom fixtures, comfy pillows and mattresses, lockers, excellent rooftop hangout with tons of comfy seats, reliable wifi, a/c, reading lights and two outlets at each bed (rare and awesome), and one of the cleanest hostels I've stayed in.

CONS: There is one bathroom per room, (no common area bathrooms) so you feel guilty if you're in there for more than 5 minutes. Breakfast is not very generous (4-5 thin slices of cucumbers, tomatoes, salami, cheese, 4 olives and a basket of sliced bread, all-you-can-drink coffee and tea) and served on a pre-made plate, so no going back to fill up on more. Towel deposit is 20 lira. Wifi signal doesn't reach the roof. Hostel is located on at the end of a street filled with expensive restaurants that cater to tourists. The touts will hound you to eat at their place and the most persistent one is the guy who is promoting the restaurant at the front door of the hostel, which made for a several-times-a-day annoyance.

SUMMARY: A few drawbacks, but overall a great choice if modern comfort and convenience is your primary objective.

Room Tip: The private double room is in the basement. Didn't sleep there, but peeked my head in. Probabl...
