“Context Tours are the best!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Our family took 4 tours with Context in Istanbul based on our wonderful experience with them in Venice and Rome. We toured the Haig Sofia, Topkapi Palace , did a Galata Nights walking tour and toured the Spice Market.
Hulya was our guide for the Spice Market tour and it was a huge hit with my teens. To be able to taste, touch and smell the various spices, fruits, nuts, and foodstuffs that are eaten by Turks and to learn the history and origin of food made everything resonate.
Cilia was our guide for Galata Nights. She gave us the fascinating background between this very old neighborhood with the ever shifting ethnic groups that have resided here as we walked the many cobblestone street that have now been quite gentrified.
Ebru was our guide for the Haig Sofia and Topkapi Palace and she had an encyclopedic know ledge of each historic site, with interesting anecdotes that made the hiostory of these sites come alive to teens.
I highly recommend the very professional and slightly professorial guides that Context enlists. Most of our tours were private but even in the group tour, we only had three additional people making our experience feel very specific and intimate.

We had the most amazing 3-hours with our docent Ceylan in Istanbul. She inspired us with her knowledge, warmth and interest in the art, architecture and history of Hagia Sofia and ancient Istanbul. She was also incredibly helpful in directing us to our next unstructured culinary and educational activities. Context travel was extremely professional, organized and a pleasure to work with. A great resource in the world of travel.

“Wonderful, knowledgeable docents - worth it!”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

Our family took two private tours with Context in Istanbul - the first was Hagia Sofia/Hippodrome/Basilica Cistern with Arzu and the second was the Blue Mosque/Topkapi with Claire. Both Arzu and Claire were terrific - extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful, engaging. None of our questions, however obscure, stumped either of them. And they were both really gracious and patient with our restless boys (Claire was particularly skilled at making the material interesting and relatable to young people). Very highly recommended!

Wonderful experience. Graduate student-level tour so if you just want things pointed out then pay less & get less. If you want a great history lesson from a very knowledgeable guide, this is for you. Tiny groups (we had three people one day and just the two of us the next day). Claire was our guide at Topkapi Palace yesterday and Ebru at Hagia Sofia today. Great perspective difference between an American expat and a native Turkish guide. Truly memorable both days. HIGHLY recommend.

“Curated Lunch”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed the Curated Lunch with docent Renan Yucel while in Istanbul last week. Everyone in our group of five declared that this was one of the highlights of our visit to Greece and Turkey.

The walk included tours of markets, tastings of local specialities, introduction to the best food shops and lunch at Ciya, where we were warmly greeted and served a delicious feast. In fact, I believe the Turkish cuisine is now my favorite.

Thank you Context Travel for once again providing excellent service.
