We used to be regulars at this place about 5 years ago, so when a friend invited is formher birthday party to Cezayir we got really excited to remember the positive feelings about the place.

Then we came for dinner. The setting is fantastic, priceless I can say, but the rest. Looser with a big "L".

Service food attitude speed taste presentation promtness, are concepts that the help here has no idea about.

Especially when there is no lamb left when half of the menu is lamb on a saturday night, we were literally tryin to squeeze the service out the help by tweezers.

So, See the place as a nice venue, you can get a coffee after walking in the neighborhood. Do not take the risk of dining and dissapointment since there are so many nice places around.

Italians had its impact on the social and economical life of Istanbul through the centuries. This old building used by the italian workers'society is now serving as a popular restaurant. Though the origins of the building are italian, do not think that you will be limited to the italian food. Many sorts which a foreigner would like are here.

The setting is really lovely - a leafy courtyard set in an attractive 19th century building that was formerly an Italian school.

Perhaps I ordered the "wrong" dishes, but it really must have been amateur hour in the kitchen. The entree of "traditional duck with pastry" consisted of dry pieces of tough and tasteless shredded duck, seemingly re-heated, on a puff pastry round. The main of carnaroli risotto with shrimps was a virtually inedible glutinous, stodgy mass of rice. I picked out the prawns/shrimps and left the rest. I didn't stay for dessert.

The service was competent enough, although the place only had about 3 or 4 other tables occupied.

Really disappointing.

Good location and ok food. Loved the mezze but the main and dessert were not that great. I might try one of the neighbouring restaurants the next time as it is a beautiful area in Istanbul.
