We found this place by chance on our first night in Istanbul, the service was great and the food was lovely. To finsh of the night we smoked sheesha with Turkish tea. Highly recommended, we also went back on our final night and got a FREE Turkish tea and top class service from " NECA TI" who is a legend by the way. Thanx for looking after us! Will go back again.

On our last night of a 7-day stay in the heart of Old Istanbul, we meandered into this little spot tucked down a charming side alley near the Blue Mosque. The restaurant/cafe/hookahtarium (probably not a word, but go with it) is comprised of three sections really: an inside area, a gorgeous back garden and front seating in the alley. We chose the latter and treated ourselves to a jellybean (think mixed fruit) hookah and some apple and traditional tea. We ended with a plate of baklava, probably the best we had during our stay (and trust me, we indulged frequently).

The reason we chose this spot? Aside from the charm, the place was buzzing with locals in their 20s and 30s, a sure-fire sign of a fair-priced, good-food-having and fun spot. Murat served us and was funny and hospitable, and went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. I got a glimpse of some of the scrumptious-looking food on the way out, and wish I had another day to sample their menu. Alas, there's always next time.

One word of warning: there is no alcohol served here, so go on one of your dry nights or to sober up after that one-too-many bottle of wine!
