“New Friends!”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

After the long flight from the east coast of the USA to Istanbul, my friends, husband and I were looking for a good restaurant where we could take our time, enjoy the surroundings and eat. We wanted authentic Turkish food and something very comfortable. The front desk at the Citadel gave us walking directions to the Sultanahmet area which had many dining options.

As we approached the area we noticed men standing outside their establishments asking us to dine in their restaurant. One particularly sweet guy, Ahmed, showed us his menu and promised us good food with comfortable surroundings. Ahmed charmed me and so I made a new friend and discovered an excellent restaurant. As a matter of fact, we were so impressed that we ate at Rumist 4 times during our week long stay. Ahmed knows the menu well and be sure to take his suggestions. He is very skilled at encouraging you to step inside the restaurant without making you feel awkward. If I had a restaurant he would be my star employee.

The owner and chef was superb as well. I asked him for something not on the menu and he accommodated me. The lamb he cooked was to die for. The service was terrific. We even got ice!!!! We also got to hear some stories about his family.

We really enjoyed sitting outside on comfortable cushioned chairs. It was chilly in the evenings but the outdoor heaters kept us warm. Old friends, new friends, great food, wonderful atmosphere all added to our trip to Istanbul! If you stop by please tell Ahmed his friend from Baltimore said, "Hi!"

“Great For Lunch”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

The lentil soup, fresh bread, and pide (Turkish pizza) were just perfect for lunch. The service was excellent and we had a great view of the street.

“Great Experience”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

We had a wonderful time at the restaurant. The food was good, the greeter Ahmed who convinced us to eat there was charming and we had wonderful conversations with the owner. We ate there several times and were never disappointed. Their apple tea was the best we had in Istanbul.

“Great food and friendly staff”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Excellent food. We had the special menu recommended by the staff (about 60 Lira). We also purchased one of the lamps hanging in the restaurant. The shisha was quite good. However, I recommend the shisha near Sultanahmed mosque instead.

“Amazing food”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We picked this restaurant based solely from the tripadvisor review and we were pleasantly rewarded! Ibrahim made room for us quickly when we arrived even though there wasnt room at first. They dont serve alcohol but have the widest selection of fun fruit and vegetable juices we have ever seen. The mixed grill for two and shrimp in tile are excellent! As is the shepherd's salad. The atmosphere is charming and the people are so lovely it is like visiting family.
