Hotellino is a modern, comfortable, friendly small hotel, central enough that you can walk to all the main sights, or easily catch the tram if you prefer. For the very reasonable price you get a spacious, clean room with comfortable bed (firm!), well stocked bathroom (including a nice towel warmer), free internet, interesting breakfast, and the personal attention and touring advice of the friendly owners. All of my emails got a quick response so we felt secure with our booking, even though the website was a little quirky.

On arrival from the airport (don't forget about that $20 visa!), around 11a.m., our rooms were ready and waiting. One room was was on the top floor and the other was on 2 - both were just as the pictures portray. Modern furnishings, wood floors, tile bathrooms, clean and warm with plenty of storage, a safe, a mini bar, robes, and a small flat screen tv. Yes and free bottled water! The only problem we encountered was the door to the small balcony was leaking. It was raining and there was a growing puddle in front of the door. This was quickly addressed when reported to the staff. As others have mentioned, there isn't much of a view, but we didn't spend much time in the room during the day anyway. It was a wonderful, warm haven to return to after a long days of walking in the chilly, cloudy weather.

Breakfast is full of choices! Favorites included the fresh yogurt with comb honey, hard boiled eggs, variety of juices and coffee. There are also fruit, scrambled eggs, hot-dog-like sausages, olives, cereals, pastries, and many, many things that were tasty but I'm not sure exactly what they were. :) Certainly enough variety that everyone can find something they like, and enough quantity to satisfy your hunger until lunch or later.

When it's time to venture out, there are free umbrellas to borrow in the lobby if needed. A ten minute walk (with a bit of uphill) will get you to Sultanahmet and all its famous sights, and 5 minutes in the other direction takes you to Eminönü where you can catch a ferry at the pier (to Kadıköy, Karaköy, or a Bosphorus cruise), visit the Spice Market, catch the tram, or walk across the bridge. The public transportation was easy, reliable, reasonable, clean and safe.

As someone else mentioned in an earlier review, several Trip Advisor top-rated restaurants are 3-4 blocks from the hotel, and an easy safe walk at any time of day or night. We especially enjoyed dessert and coffee with a view one evening at Hafiz Mustafa 1864, right at the tram stop. The baklava there is just heavenly.

When I researched the hotels in Istanbul they seemed to be three types: the hyper-expensive 5 star international properties; the over-the-top ottoman decor properties at a mid-range price; and the sometimes sketchy-looking bargains. Hotellino stands on its own - a bargain that is equal in quality to the mid-range hotels, minus the fancy decor. Loved it and would go back in a minute!

Nicely decorated, clean, comfortable and good breakfast and the price was a bargain. Very good location and easy to find, close to a bazar and several interesting places. Would like to stay there again.

This is my second stay at Hotellino. I had stayed here once in summer 2012, and was throughly impressed by the friendliness of the staff, hotel cleanliness and convenient location. When I went back to Istanbul in February 2013 I chose the Hotellino again. Why wouldn't ? It has been great before. And sure enough, they lived up to the high expectations they had set before. The front desk receptionist immediately recognized me when I walked into the lobby. How many guests has she seen in the 6 months since summer? Thousands. But she still managed to recognize me immediately. Amazing. The owners again came by to chat and provide very helpful tips for our visit. Breakfast was excellent, varied and plentiful, as always. After my stay, I realized I had left an item in my room. They found it and promptly mailed it back to me in the US. Absolutely fantastic hospitality, and a true personal care for the customer. As for location, this is my favorite location in Istanbul. Not that the immediate area of Sirkeci itself has anything super interesting, but it is close to everything and at the hub of public transportation. We can easily walk up to the Hagia Sophia area in 10 minutes or less. In the evening, walking back from Hodjapasha is a five minute walk. To go over to the Asian side, Taksim area or Nisantasi, a short 5 minute walk to Eminonu for access access to ferries, taxis and dolmus. All right there, easy access to everything. Great location, great staff, great little hotel.

Room Tip: Five floors, each with five room 101, 102..., 105. 201, 202, .., 205... In 2013 there is some construction next door, near the 01 rooms. While that construction is on, recommend you try for an 04 or 05 room.

Do not expect too much as it is an inexpensive hotel. You can get there easily from Ataturk airport by subway and tram. The tram stop Gulhane is a five minute walk away. You must walk along the ancient walls down and after a fruit shop, turn left. After turning your hotel second on the way. The road from the airport takes about 80 minutes and costs 3 euros. Very clean and nice hotel. Breakfast is good. There are heated floors in the bathroom. There is free tea, coffee and bottled water in the room. There is free tea, coffee and bottled water in the room. The staff is very attentive and friendly. If we are in Istanbul again, we will choose this hotel again.

The Hotellino is situated a few minutes' walk away from both the main cultural gems of Istanbul (Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and the old town) as well as the ferry terminals and the Grand Bazaar. There is however no noise disturbance since the hotel is on a side street, just tucked away from the tram line and major train station. It is a very pleasant hotel, with well appointed, modern rooms, good wifi and an excellent buffet breakfast.
Above all, however, the owners and staff are extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. They found time to help us to plan our days' visits and even to chitchat. I can highly recommend the Hotellino.
