“The terrace!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

The location of Harmony is perfect, right by the Gülhane tram stop. Not that you need the tram, really. You're walking distance from everything in Sultanahmet, the Grand Bazaar, the Spice Market, and Galata Bridge. In fact, from the terrace you can see Aya Sofya on one side, and there are great views of Galata Tower from the other. The terrace is the star. It's the common room, and very uncommonly so. Pillows and couches, apple tea, other drinks too. Breakfast is delicious (tomatoes, cucumbers, bread, jam, cheese, eggs.) They play great music, Ahmed and Mahmood love their music! They were EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. And the beds were comfortable too!

Room Tip: The six-bed room is right under the terrace, so it can be a little loud late at night. If that bothe...

Harmony Hostel is the best! The location is paramount to a vacation in Turkey as it is close to Ataturk Airport (40 minutes drive), local trams, eateries and all city sightseeing. The staff at Harmony Hostel are at hand 24-7 and are genuinely helpful and eager to please. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and regularly serviced. The rooftop terrace is a special surprise as the view of the city is amazing and one need not go looking for entertainment as this place is home from home. Internet, reading material and music always available.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hostel to anybody looking for the real Turkish experience.

I *Loved* my stay at the Istanbul Harmony Hostel.
The staff is key - they are SO hospitable, SO helpful, SO respectful, and very accommodating. I felt they were just genuinely really wonderful guys. they made me feel more than comfortable and helped me out all the time.
The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable, and I love how you keep your luggage underneath the bed (it opens up). there's also spacious locked safes for any valuables- you could fit a book bag (not totally stuffed) in there. The water pressure was great in the shower and there was always hot water when needed. The sweetest lady can be seen every day cleaning the place up making sure all is well and tidy. The owner is always around and is very respectful if you need anything. The rooftop terrace is ideal- lots of cushions and low tables, drinks and hookah and often they have barbeques and things like that - it's a great place to meet the other travelers (all of whom were amazing adventurers IMO) and just hang out.
It felt like a great slumber-party. I spent some of my time in the mixed room and the rest in the female-only room. Both were wonderful - the female only dorm had a nice dresser with large mirrors and sitting stool in addition to the mirror in the bathroom - great for doing make up and hair in the morning.
The location was PERFECT: within walking distance to hagia sophia, blue mosque, grand bazaar, everything around sultahnamet area and the metro is RIGHT there to get anywhere else. it's nearby a big gorgeous park where the red roses just smell so wonderful - go check it out! There's tons of cafes, restaurants, shopping, and more right on the street. Its a very safe and touristy area - I walked around every night alone and never had any problems or felt uncomfortable.
The internet also worked whenever needed and I just overall had a fantastic experience staying here. the place, location, staff, and other people staying there made for a beautiful experience! Highly recommend.

Staffs there are very friendly especially the 2 Turkish managers who stand by at the receptionist down stair are very generous.

I stayed 2 nights at female dorm about April 2012. Room is quite clean and good concept about luggage putting under the bed.

But breakfast is so so and coffee is not hot. Anyway staffs are super friendly

Very good location,in the historical center and interesting access to the dormitories - you should pass through a carpet shop which is like a door to a secret world:)Further the terrace brings more mystery and you will definitely remember your rooftop breakfast. The staff is very nice and helpful even not everybody speaks English. The only little thing to mention is that cleanliness could be better but you could get over it for a short time stay.

This place is awesome. Staff are friendly and go out of their way to help. Stayed here for 4 nights and they were mostly last minute decisions. One night they were fully booked and we had no where to stay, within 3 hours all 3 of us had beds for the night. The roof top terrace is a great place to socialise and meet fellow travellers. Nice breakfasts in the mornings. Comfortable beds that lift up to store your belongings. Stayed in pretty much every room while we were there and they are all great. Would defiantly go back there to stay.

In such a huge city a central location is everything -- and this hostel was situated perfectly. As the others keep mentioning, the terrace was a wonderful place to relax, drink outlandish amounts of apple tea, and meet fellow travelers with ease. The rooms were sunny, safe, and clean. Most memorable about the hostel was its staff: through possibilities for shared meals on the terrace and late-night fun, they were bent towards bringing people together and making sure all of us had a good time. Highly recommend this place.
