“Fun, Friendly & Welcoming”
Reviewed May 14, 2011

Me and my friends stayed here for 3 nights, we choose this hostel based on previous reviews and we are so pleased we made this decision. It was the perfect place to start our adventure around europe.

The atmosphere was fantastic, the staff was so friendly welcoming and helpful nothing was any trouble we had a great laugh with all the staff and other guests, we built some great friendships and I am very sure they will last.

The hostel itself is everything and more that you would expect from a city hostel.

The hostel is located within easy access to all major city transportation making all the major sights of this amazing city with ease.

This hostel was excellent in price, fantastic location and excellent staff.

I will be telling everyone where they need to stay.

Harmony hostel in Istanbul was for myself and my friends the highlight of our summer traveling around Europe.
It is located in the heart of the old religious centre, within walking distance of the bus routes and main tourist attractions; mosques, spice market etc. Yet inside you feel secluded, the hostel is nestled behind an unorthodox entrance; a carpet shop! There is a stunning terrace which overlooks the mosques and the sea.

The service is the best I've ever encountered not just in hostels... the standard of hospitality offered is as good as any I've experienced in 5 star hotels, and is more genuine. This is thanks to Omar and Lucky 'Ugur' who are part of the harmony hostel staff and seem more like family. They will do anything they can for guests.

At night they transform the terrance, it is lit up and dance music gets everybody in a good mood. Omar pulls delicious cold pints of beer and sets up the traditional fruit flavored water tobacco pipes- very traditional. Everyone sits on Lucky's gorgeous crafted carpets and cushions and eats a great meal of Spicy pasta, courtesy of Omar. Amidst the buzz on the terrace peaceful spots are readily available, if you are not in the mood to socialize you can pull up a chair in your huge bedroom and take in the views of Istanbul at sunset.

Harmony hostel offers great value for money - it includes a traditional breakfast as well-
The atmosphere is one of tranquility, friendship and wonder. 'Harmony' is just that; a blend of excitement and relaxation and an underrated, underpriced gem.

There is a bad review on this trip advisor - it is unfounded. I never got a cold supper. And while the owner is not as welcoming as Omar and Lucky it is these frontline staff who you deal with on a daily basis. Any construction that was going on while those reviewers were staying was worth the small inconvenience - Harmony is a well finished beautiful place to stay.

Room Tip: Get involved, a great place for friendship!

I've traveled all over the world and have stayed in several hostels. I can honestly say that my time at Harmony Hostel was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had. It is in a fabulous location, clean, and friendly. I guarantee you that Ugur Yolcu will be the highlight of your stay. He is probably the funniest and most charming guy you will meet in Istanbul....always up for a good conversation or ready with tourist advice. Make sure to take advantage of the rooftop terrace. It has gorgeous views of the city and has a very casual and relaxed atmosphere.

I stayed here at the end of August/September.
It is very friendly and clean. The breakfast is fine but the same every day, you do also get basic pasta and sauce in the evening, which was an unexpected bonus. I booked accommodation in a 12 bed room but they gave me the 6 bed room, perhaps cos I am a senior citizen. The Harmony was full, or nearly full for the 9 days I stayed.

It is very central for all the main sites and you can get a fish sandwich for lunch for 4 lira by the Bosphorus. I also found some cheap friendly bars in side streets 5 minutes away.

The Tram runs past the door so getting about Istanbul is easy.

The hostel is above a carpet shop. It is easy to miss if you are walking up the hill fully loaded; but well worth it.

We had left it quite late to book a room in Istanbul so found this 3-star hotel on laterooms.com. The overall impression is one of relaxed warm friendliness, hospitality and a genuine wish help customers by the staff. The breakfast was fresh and tasty, there is a nice roof terrace with fabulous views of the Bosphorus, there was internet access available and staff would quickly deal with any issues. The owner spent over 1 hour helping with onward travel arrangements, making calls on our behalf, etc. Zeki, one of the staff, recommended Kumpapi for a night out and we were so glad to follow his advice - we had one of the best nights out during our whole stay in this vibrant part of town. All this made up for a few inefficiencies/ errors - for example, we had booked a superior room costing Eur10 more but when we arrived, it was mentioned in passing that the room would not be available for the first night so had to stay in a standard room. There was barely space to unpack our bags, much less swing any of Istanbul's plentiful supply of cats in that room. If we hadn't insisted on paying the standard price for the standard room, we might have been charged. But that's a fairly small quibble. If staying in Harmony hotel, make sure to ask for a superior room.... and make sure you get it!

A very nice hostel in the old centre. The staff is friendly and helpful (Ugur and Canan). Our private room with four beds was big and clean. The terrace on the roof is amazing. This is a good hostel and is worth the money you spend per night.
