“small nice hotel close to the Palace”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

This is a small but nice hotel. Location is almost prefect, small street and really close to the Palace. They can organize a transfer from the airport-we used it. Breakfast was more or less ok, but the coffee was awful so we had to drink tea. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Although the rooms are small, they were very clean and included a kettle and tea bags as well as free wi-fi. Really good showers. The location is great for major sightseeing, close to the main attractions and near a good range of bars, cafes and restaurants. Good choice of food at breakfast. What a shame they only have powdered orange joice.

Room Tip: We were at the back of the hotel with air-con noise with the window open.

Really good response to pre-arrival emails and airport pick-up was a bonus for a first visit to Istanbul (I stayed here at the beginning and the end of my 3 week visit to Turkey). The reception staff are very helpful and for the most part multi-lingual. My room was very comfortable and quiet (with the windows closed). Good air-conditioning. With the window open the sounds of an interesting city floated in. The minibar was the first reasonably priced minibar I have ever come across and the beer was cold. The breakfast buffet was stupendous, if a little unusual, and more than adequate with something to please most tastes. The gift on leaving was also a nice touch in appreciation of the length of stay. The only shortcoming is not about the hotel but rather the location. Although the street the hotel is in is reasonably quiet, I did find Sultanahmet a little frenetic and overwhelming, and you do get hassled a lot by shop-keepers. I wore a headscarf on my second stay and enjoyed walking around unhassled.

We stayed in Maywood for 2 days in mid- August. I sent couple of emails to the hotel before booking through their website and got quick replies. So I felt more comfortable booking it. We got a free Airport-Hotel shuttle transfer, promised to us if we book min 2 nights. The location is perfect, walking distance to most tourist attractions such as Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cisterns, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the tram stop right around the corner. Our triple room was clean. Looked almost the same as on the hotel website picture. The only one complain: the air cond. fan is directed to the bed. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, I'don't understand the complains about the choice and variety. it was a good choice of cheeses, breads etc. We would definitely stay here again. Good quality for that price ( for a family of 4)

It was a good experience.. We stay four nights in maywood hotel. The location is perfect and the staff are very good... We will repeat it again. The breakfast buffet needs more kinds of bread and cheese choices..

We stayed at the Maywood for 2 nights in July when we first arrived in Istanbul. Our flight was delayed so we missed our free one way hotel transfer. We were given a phone number to call the hotel but as we had flown from Dalliman to Istanbul, we landed in the domestic terminal, not the international terminal. We found payphones but couldn't understand how to use them as they were in Turkish! When asking for help at the airport, because we were in the domestic terminal, we couldn't find anyone to help us. Either they didn't understand what we were asking for or just didn't care to help. We finally went over to the National car rental kiosk and rented a round-trip airport transfer. When we arrived at the Maywood, the staff told us that a car was sent for us, waited and then left. We explained about the difficulty with the payphones, etc. and we had a good laugh. We were taken to our room which was lovely and very clean. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. We had fallen in love with the breakfast foods in Turkey from our gulet cruise and the Maywood did not disappoint. Food was fresh and plentiful along with typical European fare of breads, cheeses and meats. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and very helpful with giving directions, calling taxis, etc. The location of the Maywood puts you in the center of all the top tourist destinations within easy walking distance to Topkapi, Basilica Cisterns, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, etc. We would definitely stay here again.

I placed a booking for this hotel online. Upon check in, they found out that they made an error and they didn't have a room available for us. They were very friendly, asked for excuses and managed to offer a solution: they provided us a room in their sister hotel, The Safir, keeping the rate.
