“Excellent location friendly staff”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We stayed at the Berce hotel for 3 nights whilst visiting Istanbul. We picked the hotel due to price, location and reviews on trip advisor.

The location was great for us but it's a steep walk up to the blue mosque/centre of sultanahmet through the cobbled streets and although this was not a problem for us may be for people who are not very mobile. It takes 5 minutes to walk into the hub where there are restaurants and the tram line.

We had the ground floor room which was a little dark but perfectly adequate for what we needed and considering the price compared to many other bed and breakfast in Istanbul we thought it was excellent value for money. We appreciated the little touches like the little bottles of shampoo's etc and dressing gown and slippers.

The breakfast was so so. My only suggestion would be a good cup of English breakfast tea which there wasn't.

Overall a very pleasant experience a clean friendly hotel which didn't disappoint.

The hotel has a perfect location in the historic quarter of Istanbul, set on an unpretentious, narrow and cobbled street. In a quiet area, it is a short and meandering walk to the Blue Mosque, but away from the crowds.

Hotel reception is a mixture of two very welcoming, helpful and informative staff, with another younger member more laconic.

The hotel is small and individual with unique, attractive rooms. Ours had three small balconies that invited a pleasant, cooling breeze off the Bosphorus, and also offered a welcome view. The bathroom was small with very good facilities and hot shower, and traditionally Turkish in style. The main room had alcoves and was a refreshingly different space from chain hotels.

The rooftop breakfast facility was a walled open space, and partially roofed for wet days. It invited long, slow, leisurely breakfasts. Breakfast was generally adequate, with two significant highlights: the excellent coffee that was always within arms reach, and the remarkable honeycombe with a unique citrus flavour. This was brought in specifically from the restaurant mangers farm, and was a delight. Restaurant staff were also warm in their welcome, support and advice. We were given good guidance to a small street just 300 yards away on the way to the Blue Mosque for reasonable and good, local meals.

Of special note for those arriving at Ataturk Airport is that the hotel can arrange a minibus collection and return for cheaper than the cost of the good underground and tram service. We used this going back, it would have saved the bother of seeking out the hotel if we had e- mailed a request for use before arrival.

This hotel provided an excellent stay, and is a must for ant who wish to venture away from the predictable, international chain of hotels and enjoy local life.

Stayed here in mid June. Very homely friendly hotel. It is clean and in a very good location for all sights etc. The bed was extremely comfortable. As previous reviews have stated Mehmet is charming and very helpful. The breakfast is adequate nothing fancy. And it is very nice to sit on the veranda eating first thing. Absolutely loved Istanbul and would be very happy to return ~~~:o)

The hotel was great, clean and very wel located in the old town. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable especially Mehmet who gave us lots of local information about where to go and what to see. Its a small hotel but has all that we needed in Instanbul. I highly recommend it.

We booked via asia rooms.com and have never been disappointed yet. This hotel is quaint and homely, with very helpful staff, both Mehmet and Serkan and a great host/owner Yasar. The breakfast is adequate, more Turkish than continental, but that is the reason we visited Turkey, to experience Turkish life, cuisine and history.
We can recommend this hotel any time and will definitely be back. The rooms on the top floor are the ones to book and breakfast on the roof terrace is a wonderful start to a day experiencing Istanbul. The hotel is close to all historic sites, the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi palace, Basilica Cistern, Grand basar and tram station to take you to all other parts of Istanbul. The hop-on, hop-off bus is a great way to get around Istanbul and to see all the attractions - you need time, which we did not have enough of and will be back next year.

Room Tip: Rooms 106 or 107 on the top floor

We couldn't be happier with our experience at Berce Hotel.

The location is perfect, only a 5min walk to Blue Mosque and other attractions in the area although far away to be in a quiet street.

The room was very comfortable & clean.

Breakfasts were acceptable, nothing fancy but in line with other breakfasts in Europe. Having breakfast on the balcony was a good start to the day.

Staff were absolutely fantastic and always went out of their way to answer queries or organise tours or transfers.

Would definitely stay again if we return to Istanbul.

Great location; clean & safe; friendly, helpful staff. It was a great hotel to come back to and relax after a day's sightseeing. The rooftop area for dining was so peaceful and calm in the morning. Lovely! I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: The top room with the double bed has excellent views over the Marmara Sea. It also has three balconi...
