“The best place to stay in Istanbul.”

We couldn't be more pleased with our stay at the Berce Hotel. The staff was friendly, helpful, knowledgable, and accommodating. The rooms are lovely- ours had two small balconies- and the rooftop terrace has views to die for. The owner was there to chat with each morning at breakfast, and he even helped arrange a visit to a Turkish bath for me, including round-trip travel. The breakfast buffet was generous and delicious, and we had afternoon coffee on the terrace, too. We will definitely come back here- it was perfect!

Of the four hotels we stayed on during our Turkey trip, this was by far the least impressive. The decor and quality of our room was more like staying in the spare room of a family home than a hotel - there was dust everywhere, cluttered, weird, cheap furnishings you would find at a Goodwill store, an old bathroom (in contradiction to their website), etc... Their website is very misleading. It would be good only if you're on a budget and just don't care that much. Having said that, the breakfast was delicious and the location was relatively good. However the staff can be incredibly rude, and there was so much noise on those 'charming neighborhood streets' from the families across the street that we could not get to bed before 12 am on any night and one time even later. There are many higher quality hotels in Istanbul. We will not be coming back.

Correction to the above misleading review.

We thank our guest for her review. The opinions of our guests about their experiences they had at our hotel are very important for us however, ve need to clarify the overlooked things and explain the situation as it exactly happened.

Our guest who wrote the above review stayed at our hotel at the end of August not in June as she mentioned. She was welcomed and taken care like all our other guests. Her reservation was for three nights in a single room but in the morning of the first night she came to the reception desk and told us that the glass of shower was broken. (no comment if a two square metre glass can be broken by itself) The first question we asked was, if she was injured or not and she replied, no. So we kindly asked her to enjoy her breakfast and in the meanwhile, her room will be cleaned and fixed. After she had her breakfast, she came down and wanted to leave. We offered her to change her room but she replied no. Even we lost two nights of reservation and a shower glass, nothing was charged from her and she left.

Our hotel is just two and a half years old and everything is new and very clean as it is proofed by the opinions of our all other guests. Our furnitures are pure first quality wood and our street is one of the quietest one in the neighbourhood.

Once more we thank to our guest for her time and review.

We stayed here for 3 nights in September 2011. We were traveling with another couple. The staff including the owner could not be more helpful and friendly. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast on the roof garden was very good. The location is great and there were many good restaurants within walking distance. Definitely recommend this hotel and if we are ever back in Istanbul will stay at this lovely hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the Berce Hotel for five nights in July, and felt we had discovered a secret gem. It is family run and is not big or fancy, but the welcome from the manager/owner and the way he did whatever he could to help us enjoy our stay was unusual in its level of warmth (and I used to review hotels for a job!).
The room was small and quirky - two armchairs fitted so neatly into one little ante-room that there was no room for our legs if we chose to sit in them, but the choice of three tiny balconies and views of the sea made up for that. (MInd you, the view of the sea involved looking over a semi-derelict building site, and if anyone builds a house there, the view will be gone!)
The Berce is in a quiet side street a five-minute walk away from the main sights of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia, so you are near the sights but also get the feeling of being in a neighbourhood as well. There is a corner shop nearby where we bought bread and cheese and olives and tomatoes, beer and wine for a mellow picnic.
The breakfast at the hotel is simple but honest and good (the standard fare of yoghurt, honey, eggs, bread, olives, tomatoes, sausage and coffee), and served on a roof terrace which gives a view of the sea in one direction and a view of the Blue Mosque in another - that's the kind of view we were paying well over the odds for at fancy restaurants nearby.
The Berce was also relatively affordable (by Istanbul standards) and when we compared notes with colleagues staying in other hotels in the city, we had a reassuringly warm feeling that we had fallen on our feet with the Berce. Recommended if you want somewhere small, local, quiet, personal and simply charming.

We stayed here for two nights on the way home from a long Central Asian trip. The room was delightful, airy and light. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace is wonderful with a fantastic view. The proprietor was friendly and helpful, and the location is simply outstanding for visiting the old city. The street is quiet at night (actually, quiet all the time as far as I can tell.) I will be returning here.

The Berce is everything that its excellent reputation suggests. In fact, we hesitate to write this review for fear that this marvelous, friendly, well-appointed, superbly situated, enviably priced hotel will become as expensive as its other, less worthy competitors! My husband and I visited in mid May 2011 for five days and were completely overwhelmed by the beauty of our room, the spectacular view from the rooftop veranda and breakfast room, the rich selection of fresh, wholesome foods available in the breakfast buffet itself, the Berce's easy access to Istanbul's major sites, and the warmth and concern of the owner, Yaşar, and his staff, especially Mehmet, who went out of their way on a daily basis to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Indeed, we noticed that several of our co-tenants were repeat guests, testimony that speaks for itself. We can't wait to go back and I can't imagine that we would want to stay anywhere else. We felt very much as if we were in the home of friends, including the resident cat curled up on his customary stairwell perch. The Berce was hands down among the best travel experiences we have ever had.

We stayed at the Berce Hotel upon hearing of the fantastical nature of dear Mehmet at the front desk. Helpful, he was! The room was great, clean with two balconies. Not much of a view from there, but the rooftop was awesome- views of both the Blue Mosque and the Marmara Sea. When there, be sure to venture north within the city to the Besiktas region and to little towns like Bebek. Try to grab a meal under the bridge that connects Europe and Asia. Really great stay.
