This experience made the trip to Istanbul extra special. Selin is great. We learned some great recipes that I will be sure to make again at home. She ensured we could replicate them using ingredients available to us at home. We cooked, we tasted, we laughed and then sat down to enjoy an amazing meal. There was no eating dinner that night as I was so full. After I mentioned that I would have loved to have taken a tour of the markets with them on the Asian side....and done...Taci offered right away and took a couple of us over for a quick tour and an experience we would have never had without their thoughtfulness. Definitely an experience to recommend.

This tour is a delicious look at the food of Turkey and the markets in Istanbul. Selin and her assistant Taji (spelling?) guided us through the Egyptian Market (Spice Market) and the Kadikoy Market, introducing us to vendors, offering generous samples and explaining the importance of what they were selling and why. You can buy if you like, but you are not pressured in any way. You can tell that Selin is a serious lover of good food, and that is what this trip is about.
Save room for the huge lunch at one of the best restaurants in Istanbul. It was amazing!

We finished our Bora tour of 15 days with a somewhat disappointing taste in our mouths as far as Turkish cuisine goes.
Cannot blame the cuisine when we have been subjected to endless buffet dinners at many a mediocre hotel that billed themselves as 5 star establishments.
I had pre booked this tour after viewing reviews on Trip Advisor. We had 2 extra days in Istanbul before going home
Our guide Taciser Ayvaz met us on time at the Spice Market. A more pleasant and knowlegable person we could not have asked for! We had a list of things we wanted to buy and Taci was very patient and guided us to the right places every time. On the way we tasted tid bits of Turkish specialites that hit the right note every time. Our visit to the spice store in the Spice Market (no. 51 ) was excellent. The owner with an excellent command of English guided us through an array of spice tastings. We bought several to take home with us.
We then took a ferry to the Asian side of Istanbul and went to CIYA sofrasi. Then started a foodie delights heaven --- tastings of umpteen dishes, each one better than the one before. More on this restaurant in another review.
In conclusion --- this tour turned out to be the highlight of our Turkish holiday and firmly convinced us that Turkish food at the right place is an excellent cuisine to savor
I highly recommend this tour. It may seem pricey ( $155 a person ) , but it is worth every penny you will spend.

You can live off this stuff. Get the baklava from the shops that specialize in it.

Choose the authentic dishes rather than Europeanised dishes then you can taste the real flavours of the city.
