I stayed twice in this hotel in business trips. I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Everything was good. Comfortable rooms with beautiful view, delicious breakfast, good service and excellent health club and spa. It was great to relax in the Jacuzzi and sauna after a long day of sightseeing. There is also a swimming pool, a Turkish bath and a fitness center. The only disadvantage of the hotel is its location which is far from city center. A taxi should cost you around 30 USD from city center.
I think I may have been upgraded since I'm platinum with SPG. My room was large with a very modern bathroom and a beautiful view of the sea. The call to worship (at 5 AM) is only slightly audible. I made the mistake of leaving my window open so I heard the call to worship, which sounds like a man vomiting into a bullhorn.
The staff was super nice and assisted in arranging taxis. The Sheraton offers a free shuttle to the airport but it does fill up so you have to reserve it early. The breakfast buffet was ridiculous and probably one of the best spreads I've ever seen. The girl at the restaurant asked my room number and told me that breakfast was no charge. Not sure if that's for everyone or only SPG platinum guests. Even if it's not free, pay for it. You won't regret it.
If you go into town beware of the locals. They will sell you the Brooklyn Bridge. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. Barter with the cab drivers. Tell them what you're willing to pay and if they decline walk away--I bet they'll accept your reasonable offer. Otherwise, they'll screw you. The bizarre was cool. They have everything there. I bought two knock off Rolexes. They are much better quality than the pieces of crap you buy in the alleys in New York. The vendor acknowledged that they were fake and agreed to refund me if the watches failed. A friend of mine bought 25 watches from him. One failed. The vendor honored his promise and credited my friend's credit card.
Free internet for platinum guests.
An excellent quiet location in a city where excellent or quiet is hard to come by. Set in a green area just of the coastal Kennedy road on the way to the airport. The Old Town is fifteen minutes away by taxi. You have a breathtaking view of the Sea of Marmara from every room (high floors are obviously better) and it's quiet at night so you can sleep with your windows open. Nice breakfasts with a good range of stuff, although pricey at 50 TL per head, a genuinely awful and expensive Asian fusion restaurant, but then we are in Istanbul where if you get anything better than a kebap of quite possibly reptilian origin washed down with a bitter yellow liquid aspirationally called Efes beer, you should consider yourself lucky. Spacious and well-designed rooms. Totally incompetent housekeeping (unwashed glasses, bin liners full of rubbish removed from bins and then left in the room as a present, disappearing bathrobes), a below-average spa. One indoor pool and two outdoor. Water in the smaller one looked quite pleasant sea green from the room window, so I had hopes that this would be a seawater pool. Sadly it turned out to be an unkempt kiddy pool and it was weeds in it that gave it the lovely green colour.... Generally the pool area is poorly maintained with weedy pathways, no sunbed mattresses and staff from the pool bar not bothering to provide poolside service. The waterfront is edged with large wave-breaking slabs, so trying get into the sea is impractical, even if you are mad enough to think that you can swim within the city limits without getting leprosy or some water-borne strain of ebola. Three minutes' walk along the seafront is the grotty Atakoy Marina with plenty of expensive boats in stark contrast to unkempt lawns, peeling plaster of the yacht club building and two fish restaurants, eating in the supposedly better one (as recommended by the concierge) being about as enjoyable as a visit to a dentist. For those who enjoy shopping, across the road is the Galleria mega-mall which I stayed away from, so no comment. Overall, a quite a few snags but the quality of rooms, the views and a good night's sleep make it a pleasant stay.
We stayed at this typical American-style business hotel for 4 nights and were gratified to be upgraded to a very nice junior suite. The weather was crummy and we had no car, so we ate our dinners in the hotel's restaurants, which were overpriced and only mediocre, with rather small portions. Our room was on a high floor, but the fog was so thick that the otherwise beautiful view was obscured. This hotel is directly across the street from a large indoor shopping mall, but the restaurants located there were only fast food outlets. The hotel personnel were very accommodating and all spoke serviceable English. The doormen knew us by sight after a couple of days. No surprises, which is to say that this hotel could be anywhere in Europe or the USA. No local character. But all in all, an enjoyable stay.
The best fitness and sweeming pool ever)) The food was excellent! Music in the lobby, bellboys, my room, reception, everything!!! thnx!
