Description: "Ask most tourism representatives, restaurateurs, and waiters in Old Istanbul to recommend a restaurant, and most will offer Khorasani Kebab&Grill and Steak House. This restaurant has been a part of the Sultanahmet gastronomy scene for many years and is famed for its Turkish BBQ (the ocakbaşi), tender kebabs, and freshly prepared mezes. While the menu caters to a range of culinary interests, if you want a unique dining experience then ask to pick out your mezes and kebabs from the kitchen counter and have the chef cook your kebab over the BBQ's open fire inside the restaurant. Another popular dish from the coals of the BBQ is the Testi Kebab. As featured in New Zealand's World Kitchen TV show, this flavored meat and vegetable casserole is sealed in a clay pot, slowly cooked over the BBQ coals, and cracked open before the eyes of diners. Check out the video under "We in Press" on the Khorasani website for more information about the kebab from Central Anatolia. Khorasani also has a great wine menu and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner." Afar.

Simply top of the line - from appetizers, to main course to desert, everything that came out of the kitchen was better than what came before. The cheese plate was so delicious I spent the rest of the trip trying to find some of the cheeses on it. The lamb pasta in yogurt sauce was a true stand-out, as was the mezze. Very crowded, but it only adds to the atmosphere. Try to sit outside!

We stumbled upon this very good restaurant when walking back to our hotel from the Blue Mosque. It is on a quiet, tree lined street in a pleasant location. The waitstaff were extremely polite and attentive, and the food was delicious We had hummus with freshly baked pita, and spicy grilled beef kebabs with some local Turkish beer: Efes. I would definitely go back.

We had dinner here the first night we were in Istanbul.

couple people in our party had various food allergies. The Maitre D patiently listened and accommodated all of them.

The appetizers were a special treat. They bring a wide selection (16 I believe) small bowls on a tray for you to point and select. Sharing is easy and highly encouraged!

The price was reasonable and the wine selection was great. We selected Turkish reds that were every bit as good as any I have tasted anywhere.

We had researched Tripadvisor and had planned to have a meal here because it is around the corner from our Tan Hotel. We found it but did not have time to try it on the first day. Just before we left Istanbul, we ate here for lunch before we go to the airport. We got there at 11:30 am and were the first customers. We ordered the humus and the country salad, and then the mixed meat grill for two persons. The pita bread was just perfect, freshly baked (puffed up) and crispy. The mixed grill was fantastic - even as it was the first set of kabobs off the charcoal grill (it was already ash white when I took the photos). My wife does not normally eat lamb, but she found the lamb chop to be excellent and tolerable. I think the marinate with lemon took the edge off and made it mellow.

As for dessert, the semolina dessert with ice cream inside was fresh and warm. It was great!

The food is only slightly higher than other tourists traps but the quality and the attentive and polite (and smiling) service are above average. This was our best meat meal in Istanbul.
