Reviewed April 12, 2012

Hi !

We had a lovely stay in this hotel for Easter 2012. The hotel staff were very friendly, the rooms were very clean. A cosy wintergarden for breakfast. The location of the hotel is perfect. We would love to stav here again.

This hotel is in a beautifully restored mansion. The landings of the floors are displayed a bit like a museum, with women's clothes and accessories. All of the room furniture is period appropriate. We had a stunning view of the blue mosque from our cozy room (small but adequate). Bathroom has been refurbished with modern fittings and is very clean, however, there is a bit of the old building toilet smell... which you cal let bother you or accept as part of the charm of staying in a historical mansion. It's not overwhelming, we just left the bathroom shut. I'm also sure ours was one of the worst since it was a top floor room. Since it's an old building there is a bit of noise transfer from the hall, so don't expect a silent room. Breakfast is plentiful and served in an open sunroom garden. We loved this place!

Room Tip: Top floor is toasty warm and gets a little more of the "European old building toilet fragrance...

We were nervous about staying here, given the mixed reviews the hotel has received online. However, we had a wonderful stay! Our garden room was very small, but beautifully decorated with classic furniture and wall hangings. Similarly, the wall hangings and framed tiles/pictures in the atriums of the hotel created a really quaint, Turkish feel. Even though our room was on the first floor and faced the street, we did not really have an issue with noise at night. The breakfast included coffee, juice, bread and cheese, and two different types of delicious pastries (one with apple/cinnamon and one with potato and cheese). The hotel was, also, incredibly well located--we could be at all the main sites within a few minutes of leaving the front door! However, because it is in such a tourist district, you have to walk a bit farther to find less tourist-y restaurants and things to do. Finally, the hotel staff did not seem that knowledgeable about things to do in Istanbul; for example, we were there over New Year's Eve and the staff did not know if and where there were fireworks.

We we planed to spend new year in Istanbul I seach long for a nice cosy hotel and had high expectations when I booked this Erten Konak. It turned out to be a very charming hotel, nice decoration and a great location near bye The Blue Mosque. It is on a calm street nearby the The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, restaurants, shops and a couple of minutes walk from the tramb. Our room was on the top floor with a view over the roof tops and The Bosporen in the background. We had a deluxe room and I find the size of the room good, not small as I have seen other review write about. We were note disturbed of the wooden floor, mabye becauce we stayed on top floor. The staff at the hotel was very helpful. If a go back to Istanbul I would stay at this hotel again.

My friend and I really enjoyed our stay in Istanbul, enhanced by the great location of this hotel. It is centrally located and very easy to get to all the main attractions for early starts to beat the crowds at the main attractions and safe and accessible after an evening out in the city. The staff were friendly and helpful and went out of their way to attend to our needs. The breakfast was adequate, if simple and the room was an acceptable size for our short stay in this charming city.

Room Tip: Get to grips with the A/C to prevent getting too hot at night, even when it is chilly outside!

We stayed here for 3 nights in September. As stated in other reviews, some of the rooms are tiny - the photographs on the website make the rooms look larger than they are. Ours room was small and a little more elbow room would have been nice, but it was charming and clean; the bathroom was a good size and the shower worked well. We don't spend that much time in our room when we travel, so it wasn't a problem for us.
The hotel has been restored, and you can tell that a lot of care was taken - the wooden floors were refinished, decorative ceiling moldings added and floral designs painted on the room doors.
The staff was very friendly and answered all our questions. We even got to know the people in the little store on the corner, which sold bottled water for 50 cents.
The hotel is centrally located a few blocks from Sultanahmet Square, convenient to everything. Even so, we did not find it noisy. When we left here to join our tour group at a larger hotel, I missed the charm of this one, although my husband liked the bigger room. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the larger rooms if you are concerned about space.

Timber flooring and dry wall construction has its disadvantages, but we were quite satisfied with this hotel. The fact that it is centrally located is a huge advantage. If not this hotel, find one that is also in the old city. Easy to get to after a long night out. Our garden room was small and the shower cubicle tiny. However, very clean and breakfast was fine. I will easily go back to this hotel. Just a note: There are cheaper ways to travel to or from the airport. Use the metro and tram lines for under 2Euro per person compared to what hotels charge.

Room Tip: Our room was on the ground floor. The stairs look quite steep.
