“Excellent location and staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

My fiance and I ventured to Istanbul on a very last minute trip. We booked the Ferman Hotel after reading several great reviews and we hoped for the best. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the very friendly Sinan at the front desk; our trip was off to a great start! Sinan took amazing care of us during our entire stay. We ended up asking to move to a different room with better ventilation and he took care of us immediately. Ahmed, the gentleman who worked on the rooftop breakfast & bar area, was also incredibly pleasant; he took great interest in our travel stories and really went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. It was hugs all around on the morning of our departure. All of that being said, the rooms were gorgeous, clean, and quiet. The location can't be beat-- you're a few minutes walk to everything. I would come back to Ferman in a heartbeat!
Side note: make sure to print out the hotel address and phone number so your taxi driver can locate the hotel; this area can be confusing to drivers.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel (away from the street); and the higher the floor, the b...

The location is almost unbeatable if you are looking to stay in Sultanahmet. It's a very short walk to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Sultanahmet park, Basilica Cistern, the Hippodrome, the Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace, and it's near plenty of hamams & places to eat. The walk to Galata bridge, crossing over & exploring near the fish market & Galata Tower was not bad either. All in all, very close to nearly all of the major tourist spots, and in an area that feels quaint & safe.

The view from the terrace was fantastic. It was lovely to start our days enjoying a Turkish breakfast while looking out over the Bosphorus. It was equally wonderful in the evenings to grab a kebap & baklava from somewhere nearby, and head to the terrace to eat, drink wine or Efes, and take in the breathtaking view of the Blue Mosque at night... with dozens of birds circling above that beautiful building.

The staff was wonderful, with very pleasant attitudes, answering any questions we had, giving directions, etc.

Our room was on the same level as the lobby. Everything seemed clean & very well maintained. It was nice to see that all the doors, cabinets etc., were made from real, solid wood. The only thing even remotely negative about this room was that there wasn't much of a view, but the rooftop terrace seemed accessible whenever we wanted, so that more than makes up for this.

Perfect location for exploring Sultanahmet. Interesting locale also to poke around the area (old fishing area with wooden buildings) near the Sea of Marmara. Great views from the terrace. Very friendly and helpful staff.

I booked Ferman based on Trip Advisor and Agoda reviews and I swear I broke down crying when I saw my room (the fact that a taxi driver dropped us couple of streets away in a maze of narrow streets, vaguely pointing in hotel's general direction might have been a factor of me being upset even before entering the hotel). Well, when the receptionist kindly helped us into a lift and pressed B1 floor (B for basement) I thought that our stay will be interesting. The room we entered was dark, very smelly (old basement smell) but it had a balcony with a view of an abandoned building with gaping holes where windows should have been. The building was blocking all the natural sunlight (and there was not much of it to start with being on B1 level). After calming down a bit, I went back to reception to see if tree are any rooms available on higher floors but was dismissed by saying that this is the room I ordered. I do not recall any information on the website saying anything about basement floors of the view of crampling down buildings. We just decided to stay out of the hotel as much as we can during the day and in the evening.
Internet: Yes, there is free internet but it is so slow that I decided to read instead.
Bathroom - dark, shabby and we are seriously not exited about tomorrow's shower.
Location - it is in the heart of Sultanahmet, 5 minutes walk from the Blue Mosk and other places of interest. However, there are many better hotels in the area and next time we are in Istanbul we will definitely stay elsewhere.

First, this hotel is in a great location for exploring the main sites of Istanbul. However, we found our room to be dark and rundown. The toilet didn't flush properly and the bed was a series of weird lumps that seems to be topped off with a very strong cologne. We asked if there was another room available but they instead sent someone to look at (but not fix) the toilet. We were a bit mystified by what we found since we relied on the other reviews here in booking the hotel. The breakfast was fine, although the fruit and vegetables appeared a bit wilted.

A really well located and functional hotel. Totally recommended. The reviews were all accurate. Loved the vista from the rooftop and the staff were awesome on helping and recommending sightseeing trips. Sinan was very helpful as was Rijat(sp?). We had a wonderful 6 days in Istanbul.

We stayed at the Ferman for two three day visits with a six day break between the two visits. The hotel is in a fabulous position, close to many restaurants. Two we could recommend are The Cozy Garden and Ala Des Amis. The staff are very helpful although we did have to ask three times for an additional blanket to be delivered. Staff at check in ( Sinan and Achmed) were very good. The downside to the Ferman was the breakfast - the butter was rancid, the toaster didn't work properly and I expect that some of the food is not refrigerated between breakfasts. (We did notice that butter was removed from the table by the time we left)
