“Great Hostel and nice mood”
Reviewed May 4, 2012

The hostel was perfect for me. A nice walk until reach the sights, but it is a really good one. The staff was nice. And the price for me was perfect. Theres a nice mood at the hostel and i really prefer to pay for this kind of hostels. Not that kind of mainstream hostels, that seems a hotel. If I can i like to hope the hostels of this kind of people.

We spent our Easter Break Family Trip in Istanbul and found Neverland Hostel on a usually helpful and trustful homepage where it was advertised to be clean and comfy.
Unfortunately this turned out to be false.
We had our first problems when we tried to find the location with the directions provided by the hostel.Descriptions were confusing and it took us a while to find the right adress.
The hostel is well located in Bayoglu on foot of a hill on which one would findIstanbuls hotspots Taksim and Istiklal Road.
The rooms were awful. My brother and I shared a twin room which lead to the streetside. The beds were uncomfortable and did not seem to be freshly made.At night,it was very loud, with noise coming both from the street and the neighbouring rooms. The beds were uncomfortable and old and we both woke up with bad back pain even though we are both sporty.
We did not dare to use the communal bathrooms. They were the dirtiest and most disgusting bathrooms I have ever seen in a hostel and seemed to be in this state since a while.
Our parents' ensuite bathroom didn't look much better. The walls and ceiling were covered with black mold and cold humidity made you feel very uncomfy.
Our parental then asked for cleaning the bathroom.Someone did so on the surface but still it was gross to shower and brush teeth in this deprecated area.
Furthermore nobody really seemed to feel responsible to Look after the other bathrooms in the house even though guests had been complaining about the desolate hygienic conditions.
Breakfast was okay and the staff were friendly but thats not sufficient to make a stay in Neverland hostel pleasant.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except you are really into sanitary awfulness

That is how this place was billed to me by a friend. It lived up to it...The green party graffiti that adorns the walls and the bohemian crowd give this place its character. Everyone (the staff and the other guests) were friendly and... chill. Breakfast of eggs, bread w jelly, nutella, salad, cheese...was delicious, free, and copious in amount.

At night, the first floor could turn into a party spot. The awesome music emanating from the speakers really set the ambiance of the place, but if you were trying to sleep on the second floor, this could detract from that experience.

Rooms were hostel rooms- they got the job done, but were not extravagant.

Room Tip: My friend and I shared a room, and had a cot brought in so that we had 2 beds. Rooms on higher floor...

This place was affordable, clean, laid-back and perfectly situated (don't let the hill daunt you: with all the börek you'll be eating, you'll want to run those hills). Everything is comfortable and safe, and the surrounding neighborhoods (including Istiklal Cd—big street with shopping and eating) are great for shopping or eating. Both the common main floor and the lounge downstairs are great for meeting other travelers if you're looking to make more friends!

Room Tip: Go for a double or triple if traveling with friends

Well, we found this hostel on the internet. It was the second time in Istanbul and we wanted a low budget trip.
On the internet the hostel looks like very clean and nice, also it is advertised as an political green activist projects, so we decided to choose that. We arrived at night in Istanbul and we had a really reaaallyyyy TOUGH time while we were trying to find the Hostel. It supposed to be located at the end of Istiklal, just a few meters walk. We were looking but could not find the road, the taxi drivers did not know the address. That was awful! After 3 hours a taxi driver took us in a main road and he told us to walk up on a hill road, with our luggages on and after 12 hours trip!
Finally, we found the hostel. There was an other road, NOT at the end of Istiklal as they told us, but at the middle. Near Ara Guller (great) cafe.
Anyway, the stuff was not very friendly at first. Only the guy with the glasses and beard was very smiley, friendly and helpful. The others, had an attitude, were rude, like spoiled children.
The room was filthy, the beds almost broken and the towels were not very clean and ripped. We asked for a en ensuite room and the toilet flash were not working. We asked them to fix this, they did it but it lasted only for an hour. We could not sleep due to the water sound in the toilet that wouldn't stop.
Also it was very noisy because a big group of college students were having a party every night at the room next to ours and shouting all night at the hall!
The breakfast was ok.
It is almost impossible to go to Istiklal on foot. It is not very far but the uphill slope is huge!
If you are a student who can live in an almost dirty place for partying and laughing all night, without mind the other people you may like this hotel.
I would never stay there. We had to pay 40 euros per night for this filthy room and at the same and better location we can find clean hotel rooms for 50 euros. That was my mistake.

I spent a week here with my fiancee in May 2009. The room was OK, had a nice view of the houses between the hostel and Taxim. If the room had had proper curtains, it would be a lot more comfortable, but it was easy to put towels in front of the window.
I guess the hostel is not for everybody, but if all you require is a friendly place to stay while you spend most of your days and nights elsewhere, its nice location makes it easy to move around. It is a good place to meet germans, if you're interested, and also a lot of people from around the world. It is located close to the metro, which was really helpful for us! Also, next door, you'll find a turkish bath!
