“Perfect hotel”
Reviewed August 19, 2011

The TomTom Suites is a completely renovated ex-franciscan house, now a stylish boutique hotel part of the Small Luxury Hotel of the World. We give TomTom the highest marks because of:
Location: in the modern side of Istanbul but very close to Galata bridge, therefore very convenient to reach all old town locations (mosques, Topkapi, Gran Bazaar...). 10 minutes by taxi unlike other luxury hotel around Taksim. Nested in a quiet well-guarded street in front of Italian consulate.
Room: large, well equipped, modern furniture, wood floor, excellent bed, large marble bathroom. Very impressive by all standards for anyone who likes this style (website is realistic). WiFi working well in the room. Our daughter slept in the same room, quite comfortably, the room size is really large.
Service: always up to the expected standard, kind and extremely helpful on hints for visits around the city or booking a nice restaurant in town.
Food: breakfast is served next to the lobby, quiet and rich selection of food, iPads available for guests. Small restaurant on the rooftop terrace (4th floor), pleasant setting and good quality food, mix of international and turkish cuisine.
We stayed 5 days and have always enjoyed returning to our room after a busy day around Istanbul.

This hotel was perfect for our 3 days in Istanbul, if I went back I wouldn't even hesitate to book this place.

Rooms: Beautiful room that felt like it had been renovated within the last year. Immaculately clean and the decor great. Really had that boutique feel, and the size of the rooms is certainly substantial.

Location: I thought based on my limited experience in Istanbul, that the location of this hotel was IDEAL. If you don't mind a little hike up the alley, you are on Istiklal in under 5 minutes. From there really the city is at your beckon call. You can easily grab the Tunel down to the area of Galata bridge and into Sultanahmet or walk up to Taksim and keep going to Besiktas etc... Really felt like the absolute most central location. Furthermore, due to it's location across from the Italian consulate, it was quiet and safe feeling, while close to all the late-night action the Beyoglu area has to offer.

Service: We were greeted by reception with a ready room and the offer of a quick set of recommendations for places to visit during our visit. The concierge/reception staff were always willing to help and very glad to help out. They even checked me in for our departing flight and printed out the tickets without my asking. I've stayed at much nicer hotels and had to request that was handled. There seemed to always be staff cleaning the premises and it showed. We also had a late flight on our departing day and the hotel without hesitation allowed us to stay in our room until 4pm!

If you enjoy staying in boutique hotels, and like to be close to the heart of a cities activity (not tourist destinations), and you like to walk a city as opposed to cab; this has got to be the best option.

We recently stayed for 3 nights in a deluxe suite. Overall, a good option for Istanbul. Wasn't difficult to find at all by giving the website map to the taxi driver. Location is good. Safe. Quiet. Very close but steep walk to Istiklal street. No problem for me but wouldn't necessarily recommend to my parents. Sultanahmet is walkable as is the Galata tower area. Rooms (at least ours) wasn't truly a suite but a good size room with bed, desk, two arm chairs and large couch. Ample storage. Bathroom was nice, marble, no window, separate shower and tub, one sink. Internet is free and relatively fast. Breakfast is very good and staff was very helpful. My one negative was the absence of a close by gym. Decided on Tomtom instead of spending a fair bit more on the Park Hyatt. Overall was satisfied.

Last week we stayed at the Tom Tom Suites for 4 days. As the taxi approached we were filled with trepidation as the approach was through what appeared to be a very down market district. That concern passed as we realised that the hotel's neighbour was the Italian consulate. We arrived very early but our room was ready in quick order and tea a coffee appeared to help us pass the time.

The rooms are of the highest quality and the staff were, to a man, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We discovered that the Tom Tom Suites was truly convenient being ten minutes by tram from the main touist spots of istanbul and 5 minutes walk (albeit steep) to the restaurant hub of Beygelou.

The great surprise was the quality of the roof top restaurant and bar. We dined there on our first evening and it was truly superb. In fact so good that we returned for our last evening meal.

Even if you don't stay at the Tom Tom Suites I can truly recommend the restaurant to any one in need of good food while in Istanbul.

We loved our stay at Tom Tom Suites -- the hotel is modern and beautiful and historic all at once, just like Istanbul -- a completely remodeled nunnery with spacious, comfortable suites and an art gallery inside. The rooms, the breakfast, the staff were all wonderful. The location is fantastic -- in the heart ofthe city, away from the tourist hordes in the old town and in an affluent, hip part of Istanbul a half block away from a 2 mile long pedestrian-only thorough fare with every type of restaurant, cafe, ice cream parlor and art gallery imaginable. We walked there almost every night and felt like we were part of the thriving young professional political Istanbul scene. The tram is two blocks away and we took it daily to museums, the river, and the markets, always happy to arrive back at the refreshing, comfortable and welcoming Tom Tom Suites. Yes the walk to the pedestrian thorough fare is up a steep hill but it is quite short and good for the legs and appetite. If you cannot make it then you can take a slightly longer route via trolley. We found the location to be fantastic and the beuaty, comfort and service to be exceptional.

Me and my husband stayed a week in the hotel and it was amazing. The room was very well decorated, comfortable and clean. The bed and the pillows were between the best I've slept in a hotel. The bathtub was my salvation in the end of a day walking. The products in the bathroom are all from Molton Brown!
The staff was always very attentive and friendly and the breakfast was delicious! They lend you an IPAD, during the breakfast if you want to check the news or your email.
The location is also good, a small calm and safe street. But be prepared to walk, because it is in the almost in the top of a hill.

Five minute walk from Istiklal Caddesi. Up a VERY steep hill. It's quite a work-out. Our quads were sore the next day. But the experience has encouraged me to weight-train more regularly.

Superb hotel. Next to the Italian embassy so literally on a secured street. Quite. Very spacious rooms. We had one of the larger ones because the others were booked. But it was wasted space we never used. I would book the cheapest room you can get. They are all very nice and spacious.

Rooftop restaurant has a great view and is great for drinks. But skip eating here. It is trying to be a top-notch restaurant on the cheap. It's great for folks from the Italian embassy who aren't paying, young Chinese tourists who don't have a clue, and equally clueless Americans who just flew 13 hours and don't want to leave the hotel on their first night (that would be me).

So bottom line: Excellent hotel. Get the cheapest room you can. Restaurant for drinks only. Do quad exercises before you go.

Room Tip: they are all great......get the cheapest you can.
