The Osmanhan is the complete package: Central location, safe street, well appointed spotless small rooms with free tea/coffee/water, free wifi, beautiful bathrooms with a luxurious rainshower, excellent water pressure, towel heater. There is some minimal noise at night given its central location, but there was significantly less noise than other centrally located hotels, many of which seem to be built alongside an extremely noisy tram that runs from around 0545 to 0100. Luckily, at the Osmanhan we couldn't hear the tram at all. After staying at another highly ranked hotel in the Sultanahmet area, we thought the Osmanhan was an oasis of quiet in comparison. And all this comes at a fraction of the price of most of the surrounding hotels, many of which offer far less by way of amenities and value.

What makes the Osmanhan truly special though is the people. Hamit the owner, Fatih, and all the other staff that we interacted with were some of the most genuinely nice people we had ever met in our travels. For example, during my husband's first stay at the Osmanhan as a solo traveler, he had gone down to ask Fatih at the front desk what his favorite cheap eat restaurant was. Next thing he knew, Fatih had ordered a meal from there, had it sent up to my husband's room, and wouldn't hear of my husband paying him back. This trip was no different- they all truly strive to go above and beyond here. For that reason, this was our favorite hotel of our two week trip, even though one of the least expensive. Book early- they were so full that even two months in advance we could only get one night there.

Would also highly recommend their carpet shop, Motif Collection, if you are looking for one. We went to many during our trip and found that we got by far the best value there. There is no pressure to buy anything- the hotel never even mentioned the store to us other than in the standard booking confirmation email. You do get a 20% discount for being an Osmanhan guest.

This is just to confirm everything that has been said already.
Excellent location near all the historic sites with the tram connecting to other parts of Istanbul 10 minutes away. Sultanahmet is a tourist honey trap so make sure to go and visit other parts and see Turks walking down the streets! Also take a stroll in the area the other side of the railway line down by the sea to see what the area used to be like.
What makes this hotel special is the consistent friendliness of everyone: Hamid (owner), Fatih (manager), Wefa, Memet and the woman with the lovely smile (whose name I didn't get) who cleans and speaks French.
The rooms are as described by others including the excellent shower.
A good breakfast on the terrace each morning, looking out at the container ships coming in and going out, got us off to an excellent start each day. They are also happy for you to take your own drink/ food out on the roof at other times of the day/evening
Istanbul is delightfully noisy in the day and less enticingly so at night, so the advice re closing the windows at night and turning on the air conditioning was a must for us as light sleepers

Best hotel. Super friendly staff. Clean with everything you need. Manager, Fatih Ozer must get a prize for his friendlyness and help (all in fluent English). 5min to most sites by foot, 2min to taxi and the best restaurants 100meters away. Have your breakfast with a view, will go back for sure! Owner on site to make sure visitors stay happy. A++++++++

We were received with a warm welcome on arrival by Fatih. All the staff are extremely friendly, professional and always helpful.

All the properties in this part of town are oddly-shaped to fit the hilly terrain, so the rooms follow this irregular pattern as well. Although our room wasn't large, it was adequate and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel was clean, well-maintained, and well-managed.

A lovingly prepared Turkish-style breakfast with a choice of cold and hot items is served on a roof-top terrace which has both indoor and outdoor seating. This area is also open to guests later in the day; every night we had a nice long chat on the roof top terrace- it's a lovely view to experience the busy night time activities of the city.

At night the street outside can get noisy--delivery trucks, young revelers, roosters, feuding cats... But with the windows closed, curtains drawn, and air-conditioning on, we slept well.

The location is excellent! Everything in Sultanahmet is a quick walk away, including just 10 minutes to the tram station.

Overall, this hotel offers excellent reliable value and is highly recommended.

I spent three nights at the Osman Han and could hardly fault it in any way - clean, well decorated and well equipped rooms, spacious shower cubicle with an excellent power shower, lovely breakfasts, beautiful view from the roof terrace, and very friendly helpful staff. The only problem was the noise at night - one of the downsides of a very convenient central location - but that was easily solved with a pair of ear plugs. I would definitely stay here again.

We booked the cheapest room in the ground floor. It was small but clean, sufficient for a couple needing a place to sleep for a few days while exploring Istanbul. The hotel was very centrally located, a few minutes walk to the Topkapi Palace, Hage Sophia, and Blue Mosque. There is a bazaar 2 blocks away. I would give this place 6 stars if I could for its location alone. The breakfast was delicious and a typical Turkish spread of bread, meats, and cheese. It is served on the rooftop with great views of the Bosphorus. The staff were friendly without being obtrusive. They all spoke great English. Overall, a good stay in a beautiful city.

TIP: Take the hotel's airport service. I believe it cost us about 25 euros each way (up to 4 people) and was pretty comparable to a taxi except you get a private car and know exactly what you're getting. Trust me, after a red eye flight from the States, nothing feels better than seeing your driver holding your name up and knowing that you don't have to worry about finding your own way to the hotel (especially in an unfamiliar city). There is a discount if you pay in cash (TL, USD, or euros). I do not believe they have an elevator, so consider this if you have limited mobility. Also, see my review of Daily Istanbul Tours for a comprehensive tour of the city if you have a limited time. Happy travels!

Room Tip: The ground floor room is small and probably acceptable only for a couple staying for only a few days...

We spent our first 3 nights of a 12 day trip to Turkey at the Osmanhan Hotel and it was a great place to start our vacation! As many other reviewers have said, Fatih is extremely helpful and is really what makes this hotel so great. It is only a short walk to the major sites, so the location is perfect. I will say the rooms are a bit small, but we didn't spend much time in it and it had all the amenities we needed, and I really liked the feel of a small cozy hotel. I also didn't think it was loud at night at all (and I expected it might be given the location near the sites). The price was great and our airport shuttles arranged by the hotel were perfect too. Thanks Fatih for starting our vacation off on a wonderful foot!!! :)
