“"Shashot Travel" and "Saruhan Hotel"”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

We bought the package of "7 days tours of Turkey" from Shashot Travel (http://turkeytourstravel.com) four months before our trip. We started communicating with one of the owners - Melahat - months before when we were still researching different travel agencies in Turkey. Turned out Shashot Travel has a very competitive price and Melahat was extremely helpful answering every question, changing our package the way we wanted several times and giving us the security that everything would be handled for us.

While in Istanbul (4 nights) we stayed at Saruhan Hotel and it was a very pleasant staying. The breakfast was always delicious, the staff is courteous and helpful and the location is great - short distance to Hagia Sophia. We walked in the allies many times at night and never felt unsafe.

Melahat made sure that someone was waiting for us in every terminal station and airport. Turkish people are very punctual and our drivers would always be ready to pick us up 5 minutes before the scheduled time. Our guide (name Selma) for the Istanbul tour was AMAZING! A very nice young lady that taught us the spirit of young Turkish people and their culture. We also went to Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Kusadasi. Everything was booked (tickets, hotels, tour guides) by Shashot Travel with lunch always included in the price.

There was a minor schedule conflict with one of the third party tour guide booked by Shashot, however Melahat more than enough made up for it. We are very grateful for the service provided by Shashot Travel and Saruhan Hotel. We would definitely book with them again if back in Turkey.

Pretty decent albeit tucked away a bit quite some distance from the main drag in Sultanahmet, this is a pleasant option that would be better if taxi drivers had any idea how to find it. In the end, after an odyssey to get there, we appreciated the neighbourhood it's in as well as the pleasant walk past rambling Ottoman houses to get to the main sightseeing locale of Aya Sofia and the Hippodrome. We missed breakfast on account of an early start. They took cards which is more than I can say of the Hotel Peninsula a mile or so away.

Years ago, when I was lost in the back streets on the hill to the sea there were no hotels, just houses and neighbourhood shops. This area within easy reach of the Blue Mosque is now an up and coming hotel and restaurant area.

The hotel is hard to find but once you find it you realise how well located it is. The staff were brilliant and friendly and really helpful with nothing being a problem.

The rooms are a good size and very clean with a decent hot shower and the bed comfortable.

Everything is in walking distance (although up a hill) with the sights and sounds of Istanbul 10 minutes to the left and the fish restaurants 15 minutes to the right.

All in all a really good, quiet, well located hotel with great staff. 3 things I have rarely found in Istanbul over the years

Room Tip: Our room was looking away from the road, sea views may get some noise from the local football pitch...

My husband and I enjoyed staying at the hotel, the rooms were a good size, and bathrooms were big for turkey. Breakfast was lovely up on roof terrace. Wifi was good and fast, our transfer from the airport even waited for 1 hour whilst we were delayed in china, and it was 3am. Only negative is that it is a bit further away from everything happening in sultanahmet and uphill walk, but could still walk it.

Just returned from a 4-day break in Istanbul and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel. Situated in an ideal spot in the old town, it's the perfect location for exploring the city. In fact, there is so much to see in the local area, we wished that we were staying for a week!

All of the hotel staff were extremely welcoming and our room overlooking the sea was spotless and spacious. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace was a relaxing way to start each day and offered a huge variety of bread, jams and fruit.

All in all, a perfect trip and we were so pleased we chose to stay at the Saruhan Hotel.

We have just spent 4 nights staying at the Saruhan hotel and can thoroughly recommend it. Set in the back streets in Sultanahmet it is nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the main attractions, whilst still only an easy 10 minute (uphill) walk to the Blue mosque etc. We made our own way from the airport (6 stops on metro then change to tram and get off after 16 stops at he Sultanahmet tram stop - then 10 mins walk) easily done with a suitcase on wheels all for 6Tl each. Hotel reception is manned 24 hours per day and all very helpful, especially Ibrahim who pointed out where things were on a map and lent us his travel card. Room was fine (of a good size and clean) with a small balcony opening out to a city side view. Breakfast was amazing and will be the bar from which I judge other hotels on our 3 weeks through Turkey. Very good selection of breads, cheeses, olives as well as homemade yoghurt and ample fresh fruits both whole and cut up. All beautifully presented and served on the roof top terrace which offers spectacular views. Be prepared to wake up early each morning when the call to prayer sounds out, but it would be the same anywhere in the area. Good local restaurants within a few minutes walk if you don't want to trek up to main Divan Yolu area to be pestered by restaurants all vying for your custom.

We had a most enjoyable two nights in early May 2013. Friendly staff and a good room with tiny balcony looking up the hill across some interesting neighbouring properties. We saw reviews that said the front rooms could be noisy and chose the city side, however the rooftop terrace had stunning views out to sea and was available for breakfast and a drink in the early evening.
