The idea behind is spectacular. You find an ordinary 70s building in chic location, near Taxim but not that too near to this crazy square, and you hire the best Turkish designers, Autoban (a must-do is to visit their shop in Pera) to turn it into a luxury suites hotel. The rooms are impeccable: function meets beauty in a way that could become a case-study for other hotels!
The staff is very polite, the toiletries are from Molton Brown and the breakfast has quality (albeit nothing to shout about!!). The city is indeed spectacular, one of the great cities of the world but in my opinion with a great down-side (read below).
The restaurant recommendations need to be again very well thought-off. At the moment i write this review (on my 3d day) we have had only bad dinners. To be fair, only one tavern was recommended to us (Sofiyali 9) from the hotel and we went there on a new year eve BUT the food seems to be an issue in this great city, sorry guys but the food quality i had ranged from disgusting to medium!!!! I think that such a hotel should really try to find the best in restaurants, if possible in the vicinity, and warm the guests about the problematic food scene. And the guests should really do some homework before they come to Istanbul if they want to eat properly (and not pay a fortune).
A small massage room would be a nice addition as the hotel, other than the great rooms, seem to not cater to the other needs that a modern traveller might have, such as some kind of spa facilities or a good restaurant or some nice in-hotel bar where locals would also frequent.
Overall a great hotel!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Witt Istanbul Suites has an excellent location within walking distance from Istanbul's business district, Istanbul Modern museum and the buzzing bars and boutiques of both Beyoglu and Cihangir. All 15 suites span a generous 60m2. They are popular for long-stay guests as each has a Carrera marble-clad kitchenette with microwave, fridge and Nespresso machine. The super-cool beds with curved headboards and the laptop desks have been especially designed for Witt Istanbul Suites by Autoban. Sheets and towels were also commissioned from Denizli, a famous purveyor of Turkish linen. Cable TV, an excellent DVD collection, ipod docks and a welcome gift of multi-coloured macaroons are indulgent touches. But it's the bathrooms that make these suites really special. The ergonomic Corian sinks with pebble-shaped handles and the cluster of shower-heads that create a cocoon of misty hot water are all from designer Ross Lovegrove's Istanbul collection from Vitra. ... more less
