I've travelled extensively to Istanbul on business and while some of the other luxury hotels have better views in many rooms (Kempinski, Ritz Carlton or Swisshotel), I keep coming back here for the usual Four Seasons standard of service (not to mention the excellent bathrooms and linens). The restaurant on the Bosphorus has outstanding views and very good food and the pool is very well-placed to afford excellent views if you have time to relax. The fitness facilities are also first-rate. Although some of the standard rooms can be dark as they face the walls, the upgraded rooms are well worth it for better light and views.

The hotel is located in a perfect situation on Bosphorus with a full view of Istanbul siluet. It is not a too big 5 star hotel which makes it more familiar. The pool is just by the sea and the limonate with mint is just delicious. The rooms are luxirious, especially if you take the suits with the sea view. The food is great.

The negatives are that the personel is not as perfect as you should be expecting from a luxurious hotel. They do not look happy. And even rude sometimes.

I think it is a very nice hotel, but there are better 5 stars hotels in Istanbul. Especially for the huge price they ask.

Location: as it says on the tin, it's right on the Bosphorus, with gorgeous views from the breakfast terrace across to Asia and the Bosphorus Bridge in the background. If you're on holiday, then the location is arguably not as good as its reformed ex-criminal sibling (the converted prison at Four Seasons Sultanahmet, which is right in the thick of things and walking distance from many of the main attractions).

Rooms: large Four Seasons quality rooms and bathrooms with L'Occitane amenities. However, ours was on the top floor, level with the main road that was a constant source of noise from the city's drivers, who are not at all averse to using the horn. Surely the Four Seasons can afford to double- or triple- glaze the windows of all the rooms close to the main road?

Service: excellent - generally efficient, great memory and genuinely friendly. Helpful concierge.

Surrounding area: it's a pretty gritty area just outside the hotel entrance, though if you're feeling adventurous it's a fifteen minute walk north up to the interesting streets and restaurants of Ortakoy, or ten minutes' walk south to buzzing pedestrianised side streets of Besiktas where one can find the most delicious "aci badem" biscuits at the Yedi Sekiz bakery (go to the eatingasia.com website for mouthwatering photos).

Check-out experience: efficient; no real complaints apart from the niggling feeling that the cost of better soundproofing for the room windows would be about the same as a weeks' worth of room charges. NB: Istanbul traffic can be very heavy, so leave for the airport in plenty of time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room well away from the main road

After a busy bustling day in the city, there is no better place to unwind and feel comfortable than with the usual 1st class service of the four seasons hotel. I just loved the bosphorous view and never missed a sunset without sitting at the outdoor garden having Turkish Tea and sweets.

Standard room sizes are adequate so set your expectations accordingly. I appreciated the hint of Ottoman design fused together with the contemporary four seasons look and feel that you would expect.

The concierge was most helpful recommending great restaurants with breathtaking views. Most importantly, do ask for advice on how and when to visit the many tourist attractions.

Breakfast in the Fourseasons Bosphorous is a different experience altogether, I haven't seen such variety at any of the other fourseasons I've been to. So make sure to include it in your package!

An important point, please do get a private driver, taxis in Istanbul can be an uncomfortable experience sometimes. No matter what you experiance in Istanbul it's always reassuring and comforting to know that your coming back to a place that you can count on.

We really liked the location of the hotel and the views of the Bosporus. We enjoyed the pool and the area next to the water. The whole staff was very friendly, hospitable and helpful. The concierge was especially helpful beyond any other places we have stayed. The hotel i slocated in an area where old palaces are lined up one next to each other making for a nice long walk wiht many things to see. We plan to stay again.
