We stayed in the magnificent city of Istanbul five days in July/August 2012. Through numerous reviews, we had pointed out Matbah as one of the most interesting restaurants. The always helpful Fatih at Best Point Hotel also recommended this restaurant.
We were definitely not disappointed! We got a table close to the entrance. The head waiter promised to try to get a better table near the garden. Well, he forgot the table, and was very sorry for that. But that was no problem at all. Our table was excellent.
But it is the menu and the food that make this restaurant very special. Based upon recipes from the ancient Ottoman Empire, this turned to be a gastronomic journey into a world of delicious food.
The service was very friendly and the musicians playing guitar and oud made the evening perfect. This is surely not the cheapest restaurant in Istanbul, but the food and the atmosphere is worth every lira.
