Owner description: While in Istanbul, why not take the time to learn some delicious Turkish recipes which you can share with your friends and family when you return home? The class is held in the hotel's kitchen and features a local chef as instructor. During the four-hour class, you will prepare a five-course meal of traditional dishes. Recipes are provided for your keeping and the group enjoys a delicious meal of their own creation in the restaurant at the end of the session. Come with your own group or meet new people in the class. The class size, ranging from 2 to 6, allows for each person to actively participate in the food preparation.

“Like eating sunshine”

One of my first activities after arriving in Istanbul was taking the cooking class at the Sarnic Hotel. I made reservations through their website before leaving for Turkey, and received a prompt response. The class was wonderful--although I have been cooking Turkish food for years, I learned several new techniques and twists on favorite recipes. Additionally, the class was an opportunity to meet other people traveling in Turkey and to hear their stories. The best part, by far, was enjoying the food we had all helped prepare. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about Turkish food. I would also recommend taking this class at the beginning of your trip, so that you can appreciate the many wonderful foods available throughout the country.

“A really enjoyable experience - Turkish cooking class”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2008

Sarnic Hotel in Sultanahmet organizes Turkish cooking classes twice a week. To attend you need to fill a form at their website and they will contact you by e-mail. The price is 50 Euros and the class lasts from 10 to 14. In total we prepared 5 dishes: lentil soup, cheese pastries, stuffed aubergines, rice pudding and dolma (stuffed grape leaves). The chef and the hotel manager Mehmet who translated were totally helpful and friendly; I liked it that the chef didn't do all the work himself but got everyone engaged, giving us various tasks (luckily, not the washing-up!). Everything we cooked was delicious and afterwards we had a dinner on the terrace and just drank wine and talked about food (we had a really nice and very international group). All in all it was a very pleasurable experience, I would recommend it to anybody.

“Cooking in Istanbul: The real Turkish Delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2008

If you are a lover of Turkish cuisine the Sarnic Hotel in Istanbul is the place for you. Located just minutes away from the Blue Mosque in the picturesque Sultanahmet area, this small, immaculate hotel with an incredibly friendly and helpful staff offers small cooking classes for traditional Turkish dishes. The kitchen was spotless, and our excellent Chef relished the fact that his sous-chef was the hotel's English-fluent Manager Mehmet Emen, who learned his skills by being the same for his wife!

After prepping and cooking for four hours we dined up on the top floor, indoor/outdoor terrace, with views of the Mosque and ships upon the Bosphorus. The Turkish wine was good, the food delicious, and the conversation splendid. An extraordinary experience! All for just 50 Euro per personl.
