“What a lovely hotel, in a great location.”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Istanbul. This hotel was ideally located to see all the main sites. We were only there for 3 nights, with a baby, so we had to make the most of our time. Perfect selection of hotel in every way for what we needed.

Room Tip: We got a free upgrade to the top floor. If you can, I'd try to get the same.

This property is located on an active street (people, restaurants, traffic) and provides a great location to see the historic sites of Istanbul.

Pros:
* Clean, modern rooms
* Excellent cooling/air conditioning - we were there during 90+F/30+C degree weather and the cooling easily kept us comfortable, even cold
* Backside rooms are quiet - no street noise
* Small, boutique size hotel
* Adequately sized rooms - compared to other historic districts in other cities, these rooms were generous
* Turkish style breakfast included - meats, eggs, cheese, fruit, sweets, cereal, etc
* Bathrobes and slippers were nice

Cons
* Exercise room is small, minimal equipment
* Bathroom amenities were marginal, could have been better, especially shampoo and lotions
* TV had very few English language stations, but I wasn't there to watch TV, so it wasn't an issue.
* Spotty wireless in the room, depending on your physical location

We didn't use the spa downstairs, but it looked clean and nicely appointed. Nice Turkish bath facility available by appointment.

Overall the property is very nice and I would stay there again. The staff are friendly and very attentive to your needs. At this price range, with a great location, you'd have to pay a lot more to get more.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are darker, less light coming into the rooms, but are probably the quietest rooms...

This is a small hotel, when it comes to rooms, hallways, elevator, facilities, but we found it really big when it comes to staff interactions, services and location. The facilities are new or recently renovated, the rooms provided all the amenities that you find in 4 & 5 stars hotels! Breakfast is so enjoyable in their sidewalk caffe on Akbiyik Cad. You really feel you are in the center of old Istanbul. Just about every tour bus loaded with tourists drive through this street, and here you are living in it and enjoying every moment, from morning to the late hour of the night! One drawback, we found bathroom lenine a little warn out, and one of the bathrobes slightly ripped. Everything else was enjoyable. After three days we promised ourselves a return to this hotel, when our budget permits it, because Istanbul, including this hotel are becoming too pricey!

Small hotel located within easy walking of all major sites. Junior suite room is quite large, big bath. Hotel restaurant also very good. Included breakfast is quite extensive considering there are only 16 rooms in the hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly. Lots of nearby restaurants up and down the street.

Room Tip: Junior suite large, don't know about other rooms.

The location of this hotel is great - its on a street full of other small hotels and a few nice restaurants. The blue mosque and Hagia Sophia are only 5 minutes away, as is Topaki Palace, and the tram to Grand Bazaar is only a few minutes past the Blue Mosque.

We were disappointed when we arrived as the room the hotel gave us did not match up to the description we had based the hotel booking on. Be warned - 5* in Istanbul is not the same 5* as anywhere else in the world, in my opinion this is a good 3*/4*. The rooms are very small and the bathrooms are adequate, but its not what you expect of a 5* at all. We were moved to a slightly better room after a day. We went to celebrate a birthday and the staff surprised us with a lovely cake, which was a nice touch.

The breakfast served is OK, but if you are from London and used to travelling this will not meet your standards. There was a selection, but much of it was cold and just looked a little put together and not very appetising, the eggs we ordered were not cooked the way we would have liked, possibly due to language issues. We ended up having mid-morning snacks whilst we were out as the breakfasts just didnt work for us.

We did use the turkish bath and spa which were good.

If you are looking for a luxury hotel for your break, this one isn't for you. Its a small hotel with comfortable facilities, and an 'adequate' breakfast. In hindsight we wished we had booked the hotels near Taksim Square area, as we are a young couple and that area seemed a bit more modern and vibrant with a nicer nightlife and more variety of restaurant types, and the hotel bars we went in there seemed a bit more up to the 5* mark.

However if you are looking for somewhere comfortable, close to all the main sights, this will fit your bill.

We stayed here for the last 7 nights of July and were very pleased with our choice. It is a small hotel with a very friendly and helpful staff situated in the very heart of old Istanbul on a chic road with even more chic restaurants and bars but it's just a short walk from the bustling Sultanahmet square and the tram stop.
My only real complaint does not concern the hotel itself but the restaurants on Akbiyik Road which one must walk past every day - the high-pressure sales techniques of the owners/managers/waiters is intensely annoying and there is no reason which they will accept as to why you might prefer to walk on by.
To be honest the better restaurants are to be found elsewhere (see my other reviews).

Room Tip: We had the only room with a balcony but in July it was just too hot to take advantage of. It would b...

Can't praise this hotel and it's staff highly enough. Great location in Sultanhamet with all major attractions within walking distance. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with some excellent five star touches. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and the food was excellent. The real stars of this hotel are the staff who are both informative and friendly. We will definitely stay here again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to the Istanbul Art De Vivre!Located at he heart of Istanbul between Europe and Asia, the GLK PREMIER Regency Suites Hotel & Spa commands an extensive view of a relatively small area that has nonetheless witnessed 2000 years of the history of some of the richest civilisations humanity has ever known: Ancient, Greece the Roman Empire, The Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire!It is only a few steps from the Blue Mosque, Saint Sophie and Topkapi Palace. The hotel, a lovely mansion built in 1905, is a listed historic monument today. The elegance of its origin is still amply visible in the neo-classical moulding on the facade and the solid wood or beige Bursa granite floors. Numerous details and features in the house bear witness to a world of such sophistication that its sultans are portrayed holding a flower.The hotel's rugs, like the motifs on the walls, seem to have stepped straight out of the Topkapi Palace.As century old traditions require, the hammam of the GLK PREMIER Regency Suites Hotel & Spa features a suite of three rooms with different functions: hot room, warm room and cool room.The hotel is equally dedicated to maintaining state-of-the-art international hotel standards, which rather than detracting from its historic past, leave its guests free to savour and appreciate this heritage.In this way, the GLK PREMIER Regency Suites Hotel & Spa distils the quintessence of Istanbul's distinctive lifestyle, particularly from its 16 suites:the dome of the Blue Mosque surrounded by six slender minarets, the monotonous chant of the muezzin, the enchanting hush that reigns over the city in the morning, the sweetly scented Topkapi Park, the view of Bosphorous or the Marmara Sea on which the Prince's Islands seem almost to float or its mouth-watering exotic cuisine, etc. The justly dubbed 'Golden Horn', which the hotel overlooks, sumptuously sums up the inexhaustible wealth of this matchless location. ... more   less
