It gives an impression of how people of low income deal with the frequent, distructive earthquakes. Houses are made of a mud-straw mixture and covered by sheet-metal roofs; temporary and cheep solutions. Many entrance doors, on the contrary, are wooden, nicely sculptured!
In my opinion, Tashkent does not give a good example of an old Uzbek city. Bukhara and Khiva are much more enchanting as old cities!

I enjoyed the Chrosu Bazaar - large, bustling and colourful and it was relatively easy to take the subway directly there from the city centre.

If you want to have real idea about a city , you must go to the heart of that city. in this part of city you can find the real peopel of city , the goods that they used and the way that they threat each other.

After seeing some of the beauty of the rest of the country, this seemed average. But if you saw it at the beginning of ur trip to the country it would be more impressive I am sure.

Old tashkent main attraction is the Chorsu bazaar ...where you can even exchange your money (USD) to local currency at amazing rates... near double to the bank rates !!! You have to bargain at the shops. The Dry Fruit market is at the other end of the bazaar ...keep asking for directions else you will miss it. Its the best buy !!! Walnuts, Pistachios and almonds are excellent quality. Appricots too are delicious. They also do an amaing gift pack for Som 6000/- which is good to get back for your family and friends. Check for local chocolates with dry fruits
