Tashkent is full of green spaces and Independence Square is large and well kept. Visit the crying mother monument that commemorates the war-dead and the mother with globe, which like the storks adorning the 'gates' celebrate the rebirth of the nation at independence. Walk under the linear fountain/cascade to cool off on a hot day. Independence Square is impressive and worth seeing, but maybe not as much fun as other parks in Tashkent as you can't lie around on the grass and there aren't cafes and kids' amusements etc.

The square is a nice green area with the crying mother monument and the silver arch. There are gov't buildings, too, so there is nowhere to sit and enjoy the scenery. A good place to walk through on the way to the museum.

Independence Square is always full of people, it is a very green and beautiful place to see. It is one of the favorite place of Tashkent residents and guests of the capital. With its impressive structures and monuments, well-groomed lawns and flowerbeds, and thousands of fountain streams this square, which is one of the most beautiful squares in the world, looks really grand and ceremonial.

Highly recommended.

A lovely place to walk and people-watch . Lots of big trees and various monuments . Go with a guide or guide-book to fully appreciate the history.
