The hotel was fine - good pool and nice food, though its not nearly as nice as it looks in the pictures. However, I had a very unpleasant run-in with the hotel receptionist who tried to charge me for an extra night when I checked in at 5am, despite my being clear that I only wanted to drop my bags and go out for the day. They do have a luggage room so be careful that you insist on this if you want to avoid extra charges. The manager ended up giving me a discount on the night I intended to pay for which was nice, but not before the guy at reception had threatened me with the police and had been really quite intimidating and unpleasant - not ideal for a single woman in traveling in this part of the world.

Found the pool and surroundings of the hotel pleasant and only a short bus ride to the airport. The state of one of the twin beds was foul with blood and faeces stained sheets and resulted in the two of us squeezing into a very small single bed with much trepidation. The reception staff we found cold and unfriendly though a bar staff member was very helpful. Quality of helpfulness and openness low compared to that experienced around the city.

Stayed one night. Went to a much better hotel the second night. Very, unfriendly to a white mail from the USA. Horrible front desk and room was not clean, I complained and told too bad.

Grand Orzu was suggested by a working partner of ours and though rather affordable, it offers a warm welcome at the reception for free and enough services, including efficient staff attending all your requests. The internet service is still quite poor (I would have appreciated having a WiFi connection in my room, being in Tashkent for business),but the other services are acceptable. It's just nice spending the evening in the patio, in the middle of which a small swimming pool is, enjoying a liter of beer in the evening breeze. The hotel is located at a few minutes drive to the airport, in a quiet area, but quite fare away from the city center. International tourists will share with you their experience in Uzbekistan.
I appreciated the colourful presence of local artcrafts.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms that look onto the inner patio.

Check in - Reception staff was efficient and had the reservation information on hand

Housekeeping staff - They are also good. The room was clean and equipped with their soap and shampoo. Towels OK. Hot water hot, not just warm.

Room - Nicely appointed with a good goose neck desk lamp (other, more expensive hotels have few lights/lamps and they are dim). Room was on the quiet side of the hotel and on the 2nd floor, which was good;

Internet - Much better than other Tashkent hotels I have stayed in

Restaurant - Much better and less expensive than other Tashkent hotels I have stayed in;

The Other Guests - much more interesting than in other Tashkent hotels I have stayed in.
At the Grand Orzu there is an international, multicultural group representing tourists, NGO's, UN orgs, etc. Not just a bunch of Central or South Asian businessmen.

Room Tip: I consider the suites to be a good value

The Grand Orzu hotel is perfectly decent, affordable hotel. It is basic, but you get what you pay for.

My wife and I stayed in a large suite at the end of the top floor. No lift to take up our luggage but the stairs were wide and quite shallow. We had asked for a double bed but got two singles - but they were quickly pushed together and remade by the staff.

Reception was usually quite busy - lots of staff but they always seemed to be doing something. There is an internet computer in reception (3000 soum per hour) which was always available when we needed it - but I imagine sometimes there could be a queue.

The food is unspectacular but is served in a pleasant courtyard next to a very small swimming pool. We did see one man doing lengths (three strokes got you across the pool) but there wouldn't have been much room for anyone else to get in at the same time. The tables in the courtyard are a mixture of regular furniture and Uzbek daybeds covered in carpets and cushions.

The location is handy for the airport but is some way from Tashkent's centre. Not that Tashkent has much if a centre to be near.

Hotel staff can arrange tours, guides, etc.
