“Good location, better than its Soviet appearance might suggest”
Reviewed June 3, 2014 via mobile

I stayed at the beginning and end of a tour in May and was more impressed with this hotel than expected given some previous reviews and the hotel's appearance. The rooms were spacious, the bed comfortable with clean sheets, the water hot, and a great view over Amir Timur park (if your room is at the front). OK, so the carpet has seen better days and the air conditioning is either too hot or too cold and the corridors a bit dark and grim, but really what do you expect in a fledgling country that is still developing its tourist infrastructure. The breakfast choices are substantial, with a range of cold meats, cheeses, pastries, dried fruit, yoghurt, eggs and more. Great location across from Amir Timur square and a Metro station right at the front. And if you're there on the weekend, watch out for the bridal parties that come for their photos in the foyer - you might even get roped into a photo or too!

The building is OK, the location is good, rooms and suites are big and nicely proportioned. Yes, it is a Soviet style property, still it could work. Which it does not (especially air conditioning which did not work at all in the room). The staff is just not interested. Not even a little bit. Bellboys tend to congregate in one corner in the lobby and just gossip, they do not even look at you. Reception is slow, bad-trempered, unresponsive. The concierge is non-existent, there is just a desk. Restaurant would be a perfect replica of Soviet times in some retro movie. We have not met the cleaners, but at least they must be there because our suite was properly cleaned all the time.

This hotel is from the soviet times, renovated but not nearly enough,
the rooms smell an awful cigarette taste,
the service is very much below average ,and the reception is not nearly professional,
the room has a tv that is also probably not much later than soviet times ,
I regret every dollar i spent to stay in this hotel.

Perfectly located in a very nice area of modern Tashkent, with big and clean rooms, free wi-fi and a bar/restaurant at the 17th top floor with magnificent views of the city. Perfect place for a cold beer or a glass of wine when returning after hours of sightseeing !
On a 12 day trip along the Silk Road in different parts of Uzbekistan, we came back to stay at this hotel 3 times, and nearly every night there was a big wedding party in the very big restaurant on the ground floor. At least 300 guests each time, string quartets playing in the lobby and outside the guests were greeted by a row of men blowing very high sounds in very big horns ! It was very spectacular and an unexpected "bonus".
Only thing taking the overall impression a fraction down was the breakfast. This was served in the same restaurant which had been the venue for yesterday's wedding party, and it was not very cosy getting there in the morning with many remains from the celebrations and a lesser selection at the breakfast buffet than we found in most other hotels we stayed at around Uzbekistan.

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the Tamerlane (Timur Lenk) park in front of the hotel, and at least 10 flo...

It is a massive hotel located directly on the Emir Timur square, which makes is a convenient location for tourists. Many tour groups go there (saw tons of French and German tourists there, but also Uzbeks). We got a room on the 16th floor with a great view. It was large and modern, with a king size bed. Free wifi in the room. The shower was terrible, though: only cold water in the morning(!), and very low pressure. The breakfast was okay. Dinner on the 17th floor is good to watch the sunset but the windows are incredibly dirty, no way to get a good picture. Food and service were not very good.
Overall, it is a decent choice, but there are probably better value places in Tashkent.

Room Tip: room 16xx (even numbers) get a nice view

A huge sovietstylied hotel in the center of the city, just adjacent to Amir Timur Lenk monument and his museum. The hotel had been refurbished and seems more friendly, but still everything is huge, even the rooms. The restaurant /breakfastroom beside the reception was without athmosfere and the breakfast just ordinaire. The bar at the 17.th floor have of course a exellent view over the city.

Room Tip: Rommene mot nord har en liten balkong, mens de mot sør har en flott utsikt.

I am sure one can find a smaller, better maintained hotel with better service and charm in Tashkent.

If you stay, really ask for a renovated room. But from the lobby to breakfast the hotel has no atmosphere and seems to have tailored their service to tour groups mostly.
