This hotel would not be my first choice in this price range.

I was on a business trip. I stayed here for 4 nights, went to Bukhara for 3 nights, and returned here for 4 nights. I stayed on the same floor.

Staff were friendly and helpful. One has to keep in mind that their average salary is USD 100 to 300 / month, so it is no wonder that they may not always be smiling.

The restaurant on the 16th (or 17th) floor is less expensive than the restaurant off of the lobby. They also serve items that the restaurant off of the lobby are out of - go figure.

WIFI is in the lobby. So learn to enjoy the lobby.

The location is not bad; about 10 to 15 minute walk from a Supermarket, some restaurants, and a store where one can buy wine and spirits and another store that sells beer. So all of the basic food groups were near by.

Keep in mind that Uzbekistan has high taxes on wine and the local wine is barely palatable.

Laundry is expensive. One shirt and 1 pair of pants cost USD 9.00. Wow.

The rooms are adequate although the A/C system is Soviet style. The room is warmer than I like. My four business associates also found the rooms to be warm and stuffy.

The buffet breakfast is not bad.

Room Tip: Tipping a $ or two to the maids never hurts

I've read many reviews about Hotel Uzbekistan ( mostly negatives!) but I booked it finally for its location & based on my 6th sense!
I expected a very old fashion smelly hotel but surprisingly it was really good ! I mean there are more luxurious htels in Tashkent but this was a very good choice for us.
the building is huge, & the lobby is comfortable, big & good decorated.
our room was spacious and I guess recently renovated ( bed/WC etc), but the air condition was still the same I guess from 20 years ago or more !
Internet is only in the lobby, there is a cafe/restaurant in the lobby as well, breakfast is reallllly basic.
there were many sport teams in this hotel coming for competitions in Tashkent.

the view from our room was Amir Teimur Square, its very nice if you want to go walking around the hotel & Amir Teimur square in the evening.

Room Tip: choose higher floor, with Amir Teimur view rooms.

I stayed here on two separate occasions for two nights at the beginning and the end of my trip to Uzbekistan. I stayed on different floors and in standard rooms and on both occasions, the rooms were tired, smelt musty and the sheets and covers had holes in them. The staff were ok, lacking in service but when I was there they were inundated with big tour groups. The breakfast buffet (which was included) was fine and included a selection of hot and cold food. The location of this hotel is good but I would not stay here again. When I was there I noticed at the reception a range of rooms - it may be worth making some enquiries as to the state of the more expensive rooms.

Staff (mostly Russian) was not smiling. Not rude, just indifferent.

The room was large and fairly clean, though the curtains hadn't been washed in a long time.

King size bed, very comfortable.

The air conditioning worked for a few hours in the evening and stopped completely during the night.

We did not have any hot water, so we called for help and were told to let the water run for 10-15 minutes to get it hot. It worked.

The wc flush did not work properly.

Breakfast was adequate. Funky room. 1950.

I'll go to another hotel next time I'm in town

Is it the nicest or most luxurious hotel in Tashkent? No. But the Hotel Uzbekistan offers one unique characteristic -- nostalgia. It was once an official hotel, during the Soviet era. Although remodeled and updated, it still has some of the flavor of the old days. For example, each floor has a huge elevator lobby area, where the floor monitor used to check on the activities of the guests. The cavernous dining room is also used for special functions such as weddings, as evidenced by the elaborately carved and gilded chair standing on a raised dais, with column wrapped in white satin. I found the hotel to be quite adequate, the staff helpful and friendly, the room was spacious, although a bit worn. The location is good, right on Timur Square.

first the ladies from the reception are rude and messy - they booked for our rooms other travellers and gave them keys to our rooms, many people from our group got the keys for rooms that had been already taken!
rooms need immediate rennovation
food is tasteless, breakfast buffet is extremly limited, service slow
