“Great Hotel”

A wonderful hotel within walking distance of parks , shopping and the subway .There was a large pool , but it was not heated . The restaurant was good and the staff were friendly and helpful . I really appreciated Sardor's help at the front desk. We were there twice , and thought it was the nicest place we stayed in Uzbekistan.

Room Tip: We liked the room in the back of the hotel best , because even though it was interesting to see the...

Located in the center of Tashkent, facing the Opera House, this hotel really looks like a palace. The building, recently redone, impresses with its high, colored entrance in the style of the classical uzbek great houses. The reception hall, the battery of elevators, the finely carpeted halls, all is in perfect condition and clean. The rooms (we stayed twice for one night during an organized trip) were large, well lit, well furnished, with good beds and a very complete bathroom. Everything was functioning properly. We had a good sleep in a quiet environment. The two meals we had in the restaurant were correct. Frankly, there was nothing to criticize in this hotel, which was one of the best we had in Uzbekistan.

Located in the city center within walking distance to major attractions. The city is a city of fountains...one across the street. At night, the colored lights on the fountains with piped music was enjoyed by tourists and locals.

Some bathroom amenities including magnifying mirror, hair dryer, tissues, and plastic packets for shampoo, etc. The television was quite small. There was also a minibar and a safe which can be picked up and taken with you. Wi-fi in the lobby is free. My room did not have a kettle or tea/cofee-making facilities. There was a small balcony, but the large window was nailed shut. While the bed was nice, the sheets were a little rough.

In Room #436 (and at least one other one I know about) had a possessed television. At least four times during the night, it turned itself on, sometimes with just video, others with audio. Hearing Mamma Mia! in the middle of the night is not exactly condusive for sound sleep. The remote control didn't offer the easy to see channel selector, so the only channel was the information one.

Breakfast is nice albeit Nescafe. The fruit selection...there wasn't much...apricots, raisins, and slivers of apples and grapes; however, the breads were quite good. The omelet station was outside on the patio dining for breakfast could be inside or outside. Mornings were cool and quite pleasant in September. Even though the restaurant was scheduled to be open at 7:00, I felt like they were never ready that early. One morning people entered through an adjacent room because the door was still locked at 7:05.

The hotel is a large hotel offering a health club and swimming pool. The lobby bar, a multiple restaurants make this a favorite hotel.

I stayed there on three occasions as this hotel was the base for trips throughout Uzbekistan and into Tajikistan. Each of the rooms had the same amenities.

The Tashkent Palace Hotel is a lovely hotel. Very large but the rooms are excellent and the breakfast really good. The hotel is located in a lovely part of Tahkent with good restaurants and shopping places nearby. The hotel is surrounded by greenery and the staff are polite and helpful. The guides tell us that this is the hotel where Lal Bahadur Shastri Prime Minster of India died on an official visit to Russia. The death was announced as a heart attack. But this was the time of the KGB so people in Uzbekistan say they are unable to confirm how he died. A truly historic hotel

Room Tip: all the rooms are good the ones facing the front of the hotel have a nice view

Tashkent Palace Hotel, is a great place to stay in when in Tashkent. It has all the necessary facilities including a swimming pool - although not heated (at least not when I was there in September). Decent breakfast. Prime location near restaurants, shops and subway station.

After some very mediocre hotels in Uzbekistan it was a welcome change to come across this hotel. Beautifully sited across the Opera House in a well planned suburb. Surrounded by parks and reasonably upmarket shops. Service was reasonable, in a land that is not user friendly. Food in the hotel was average by world tankards but good by the standards of Uzbekistan.

This monolithic hotel in the centre of Tashkent is a throwback to Soviet times, including the service culture of three people doing the work of one, at half the speed. However the Tashkent Palace does offer Western levels of comfort, which we didn't find elsewhere in Uzbekistan. The location is also excellent. The price may be high by Uzbek standards, but that is true of most things in the capital.

Note that rooms on the front of the hotel face the square and it's performing fountains, which dance to lights and blaring music from around 6pm to 10pm each night. Some guests might see this as a bonus. Others will see it as a nuisance and would be wise to ask for a room at the back!

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel face the musical fountains, meaning that the back of the hotel is qu...
