I'm Plovin' It!

Astounding feats of cooking go on in this place near the tv tower of Tashkent. Be prepared to get into the crowd and worship plov. Bring tupperware for your own takeaway.

Several regional plov recipes are on offer. Fergana, Samarkand (I think), Bukhara, and of course the Tashkent variety. Be wary of horsemeat and quail eggs if that's not your thing.

The food is prepared in HUGE kettles, which are filled with this delicacy.

You can eat in, but apparently most people prefer to take their plov (a traditional gift for weddings and parties) away.

good plov for cheap price in an unusual for westerners environment. imagine 1000 man (few women) in white shirts or black leather jackets (depending on season) all eating plov and achichuchuk... ))

Very nice plov, but be aware that there might be hard to find a place during lunch time. I would strongly recommend to make a visit there.

Plov, a combination of rice, vegetables and meat slathered in oil, is the national dish of Uzbekistan. To walk into this cavernous Plov Palace with diners (mostly men) at large round tables focused on their plov, waitresses scurrying by and the general sense of chaos is an experience. I was lucky enough to be with an Uzbek friend who knew the ropes. Otherwise - wade in and good eating! As another friend said - a plate of plov can keep an army marching for days:)
