Long, interesting history. Well organized path to view it. Not a difficult walk. Excellent photo ops along the way.

This site has a few good parts, but generally, you need a great guide and a vivid imagination. You walk around ruins and see some parts that you can understand, but most of this site is speculation. After touring Uzbekistan, where the sights are amazing, the old sights in Turkmenistan are just "so so."

There is not too much to look at here but what remains is amazingly old. To think that a portion of column from 250 BC remains and is original is really amazing

Do not expect more than ruins here. And a little view from the hill. But you will need quite a lot of imagination to represent yourself Old Nisa. Even the archeological site of Merv near Mary has more to offer and see. Turkmenistan has very little to show in terms of history compared to its neighbour Ouzbekistan. So, be already happy with that. And the very small museum inside the sight will not help to give a better opinion unfortunately.

NISA had an exciting history but there is very little left. - Just basic ruins. The rescued artifacts are all in the city museum. Beautifully sited against the mountains but an uphill walk. Excellent guide.
