A very nice place in general and unique place in Ashgabat context :)

One of the best cheesecake I have ever tried! :)

If you dare to sip local brandy ("cognac") combined with very nice (real) coffee and delicious food you can spend all day long enjoying extremely warm friendly atmosphere! :)

The Coffee House offers a large and varied menu. I have tried much of the menu and have never been disappointed. Best of all, in my opinion, it is the only place I've found in Ashgabat where there are some excellent Indian dishes on the menu.

Yes, they do sell coffee. But it's no coffee house, as the selection is very limited - the waiters do not have much knowledge on types of coffee served - in fact I was only offered "espresso or Nescafe?"

Nevertheless the ambiance was great, lighting is dim, quite nice. They have a white curtain that turns into a backdrop for the projector which plays mostly music or concert video clips (that night they played Britney Spears (!) ).

The food is very good, ordered a Greek salad for starters; very fresh and crunchy, it had a fried wonton on the side - really nice. Had a steak for main course which is also great.

The downside to this is the smoking/ non-smoking sections which has no real separation it was just like one side of the room for smokers and the other side for non-smokers. That night there were more people seated in the smoking section so it got pretty smokey. All in all though, we had a good time, good conversations, and most importantly good food.

If you are in Ashgabat for an extended stay, you would end up visiting this place as there are no so many choices. They have Indian food on the menu as well. I've been there several times over the past 4 years, and can say that they try to keep up to their quality level. Ashgabat is not the place for wine lovers, and if you are desperate expect to pay 100 USD for a bottle of French wine (forget chateaus, etc. - they have no name on the menu). As was mentioned, they have smoking and non-smoking areas - this does not help at all. But the Turkmenistan law prohibits smoking outside the buildings, so there is nothing to do about that. We paid $25 per person (no alcohol).
