I appreciate Tojik government for protecting the history even though Tajikistan is a Muslim country.

Laying Budha 15 meters long is really the only thing you would like to visit this museum and spend 20 Somoni as foreigner. Ladies working there were helpful only because I did speak some Russian and gave me 5 minutes explanation of the place. Shop is poor if you don't look for necklesses...

Tajikistan is a poor country, so has little money for a national museum or proper archiving. The museum does what it can. Most of the signs are in Tajik, with the occasional English paragraph to get your hopes up. And two exhibits are worth seeing - the Sarazm princess skeleton and the enormous Sleeping Buddha. A new museum is being planned, but this pretty worn museum is worth supporting. Just don't plan to linger all day.

The female guides at the museum are really great - very knowledgable, good English and extremely friendly. The museum is worth a visit, and not only because of the Buddha.

The Sleeping Buddha is a treasure that was hidden for most part of the last century and is 1600 years old. Yes the information is only through a guide as it's all in Tajik. Considering this is the rich heritage of a Central Asian country that is determined to showcase this masterpiece...the effort on their part is incredible
