Description: Paradise Road Galleries -the Gallery Cafe Opened In 1998 In A Structure Which Was The Former Offices Of World Renowned Sri Lankan Architect, The Late Geoffrey Bawa. Bawa Personally Approved Fernando Taking Over His Beloved Property And Converting It Into A Restaurant And Art Gallery And Respected Shanth's Design Sense In The Conversion And Renovation Of The Building To Complement His Own. Bawa's Only Input Was The Location Of The Main Pavilion Where Most Diners Are Seated. The Art Gallery Features Regularly Changing Exhibitions By Established And Emerging Local Artists, For Sale. As The Cafe Is Open From 10am Through To Midnight Daily, Visitors Frequent The Property For Meals, Site Seeing, Coffee, Cake, Shopping And The Complimentary Wi-fi Available For Use Of Patrons. The Gallery Cafe's Menu Has Not Changed In Years As Regulars Have Their Favourites And Fernando Prides Himself On The Fact That They May Always Return For That Option. It Is Particularly Known For Its Cocktails And Desserts As Well As It's Consistently 'good Food.'

“Best in Colombo”

The Gallery Cafe is just wonderful. The food is incredible - of the highest standard. Both the local and International dishes are perfectly made and the huge selection of amazing puddings is not to be missed. The cocktails are superb too. The ambience is always lovely, service outstanding and it's always an absolute delight to visit.

“Stylish art gallery and restaurant out of the big hotels”
Reviewed April 12, 2014

First time back since 2009, I enjoyed being able to leave the hotel for dinner and made it to Paradise Rd. The Tuk Tuk did not seem familiar with the place but he could find it finally. The quiet street houses several new restaurants and bars, it seems to be an upcoming area for dining outside the big hotels. The setting is stylish and the way to the restaurant leads through an art gallery. The restaurant was pretty crowded, mostly with foreigners. The cuisine is a kind of European fusion with some Asian dishes in between. The starter was perfectly cooked squid rings and the main was a slightly overcooked calf liver on a very intense red with sauce. All in all it was a pleasant experience and it is worth coming back for the atmosphere and the food as well.

“A welcome reprieve from the heat”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

Better than most other restaurants we ate at in Sri Lanka. The black pork curry was a hit and the pasta was also tasty. Would have loved to sample their desserts as the cakes looked amazing, but we didn't have anymore room for them by the time we finished our mains.

The ambience is lovely, with a fan-cooled verandah to provide reprieve from the heat.

“Be prepared to send dishes back”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

A beautiful place to eat BUT the food is hit and miss. Yes, you can always rely on the black pork curry and the coconut ice cream but sometimes you'll want a change. Some guidelines to help you get a decent meal. If the plate arrives too hot to touch, it means the food on it has been reheated and may have had time to develop pathogens that will make you ill. Always therefore return a too hot plate. Secondly, take a look at your plate when it arrives and ask yourself whether you have received a decent helping. Does your main course look more like a starter? Perhaps you ordered 'pork chops' and find you've been given A pork chop, singular. Send it back! Incidentally, the waiter will probably try to sell you a bottle of water when it is available from a jug. On the plus side, nice bread and butter is always provided.

“A Joy for the senses”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

The Gallery delivers fabulous food, in a vibrant atmosphere, with sensational service. The best thing is, it does so consistently. The incessant quest for perfection of the owner shine through in the high quality ingredients, the varied menu, the attractive presentation, the attentive staff and ...even if I repeat myself, the lovely setting. Do not miss when in Colombo.
