Stayed at the Casa Colombo for one night as the previous hotel I was staying in was fully booked. As the taxi turned off the main road into a small alley my first thought was - where am I staying tonight? The answer - a stunning boutique hotel, which is completely the opposite end of the spectrum to the chain hotels I usually stay at on business trips.

I arrived 3 hours before the scheduled check in time, and am usually greeted with the response 'you room is not ready, please come back later', but this time 5 minutes after arriving I was told 'Sir, your room is ready'. I was shown to the room by my personal butler for the stay (who even wrote down their mobile number just in case they were 'off duty' when I needed them), which turned out to be a free upgrade to the Royal Suite, complete with bath tub in the bedroom (there is also a bathroom with enormous shower), walk-in wardrobe and even a MacBook!

Everything in this hotel has been designed to be 'quirky and cool'. Will definitely stay here again next time I am in Colombo and would recommend this hotel to anyone who fancies staying somewhere 'different' from the norm. Easily the best boutique hotel I've stayed at in Asia by a country mile.

Room Tip: Royal Suite is fantastic! Personal jacuzzi on the private balcony, huge 'living room' and en...

Casa Colombo is difficult to describe, but one might say this hotel possesses an eclectic mix of tradition, beauty, and modern innovation in a single package. Getting there is a bit tricky as I've found many local drivers struggle to figure out where to turn off on the one-way Galle Road. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted and served a drink as I waited to be checked into my Traveler Suite. The building appears rather old and rickety and didn't have a lift so I had to walk up a long flight of stairs, but its not a major issue.

The room was big and beautiful, with many artistic touches as befits a top-class boutique hotel, but retaining a homely feel. It came equipped with an iPod dock and flat screen Tvs which felt a bit out of place but were definitely welcome. The general airiness and openness of the room gave rise to concerns about bugs but I never had any problems. The bed was excellent - very comfortable. I was definitely happy with the room.

The hotel has some other interesting touches such as a pink swimming pool, though if I recall correctly it only really looks pink at night when the lamps are on. Breakfast was amazing - Way beyond expectations and as a food lover I was giddy with the chance at sampling authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. It wasn't a buffet but you get served so much rich food that you'll definitely not be able to finish it.

This is definitely a refreshing hotel experience and a great place to call home during your visit there. It's not a cheap hotel by any stretch of the imagination but well worth it for the experience. Five stars for Casa Colombo.

Thank you for a most wonderful five-star review of your stay at CASA Colombo. We love it that you enjoyed yourself and liked what we had to offer you.

The CASA Colombo building is in fact a 200 year old mansion, which was lovingly restored to what it is now by our Founder and CEO Mr. Lalin Jinasena, and although designed to be hip and trendy, he has retained the grandeur of the mansion so that you can see how the people of years gone by have lived. You may be interested to know that the entire design of CASA Colombo, including its furniture are all original design ideas of Mr. Jinasena, which you will not find anywhere else in the world.

Please do come back very soon and visit us again at CASA Colombo.

This was the last stop of our tour of Sri Lanka, and we felt like we'd saved the best 'til last! We stayed for three nights.

We were greeted on arrival by our "Domo" Gayan, who advised that he'd be looking after us for the duration of our visit. He showed us to our room and explained how the lights, tv and other gadgets worked (it took a while for us to get the hang of the various switches as there were many!). We were a bit apprehensive about having what is described as a butler, but in reality, it worked really well. He was essentially our dedicated consierge, and was always on-hand to help us with anything we need, and despite being very independent travellers, we were surprised how helpful we found having a friendly face to go to!

The hotel has a very relaxed approach...they tell you to treat it as your home, and they mean it. You can pretty much eat when you want, where you want, and relax anywhere inside or outside. All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful, from the bar staff to the "Domos", and the chef.

The hotel is beautifully decorated, keeping many original features, plus some modern touches. It is stunning. The pink pool at the back of the property was being re-decked while we were there, but it looks amazing.

All twelve rooms in the hotel are actually suites. Ours was overlooking the front of the hotel, but we weren't too troubled by outside noise (although light sleepers may struggle with the cars beeping on the Galle Road). The toilet and shower in our room were actually housed in glass cabinets in the bedroom (the loo's was frosted though!). The bed was incredibly comfy and felt luxurious.

Finally, the food was really good...breakfast was plated rather than buffet, and included a bread/pastry basket and fruit plate in addition to Sri Lankan and western options. The Zaza Bar is pretty cool, and the cocktails were amongst the best we've had anywhere.

We'd definitely stay again, if we were to visit Sri Lanka.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel may be quieter.

Casa Colombo is just a unique hotel. We stayed there for 1 night only and were very impressed by the service, room quality, food. The service is professional and also very personal. Next day we had to leave very early and because we couldn't have breakfast, they prepared breakfast for us to take away. We were very suprised. We had also dinner and it was very delicious.

We had a really lovely stay in Casa Colombo. We arrived early and were given an upgrade to Suite 12 which was really kind of them, it was such a lovely room. 5 mins after we got into the room for some sleep (we had flown most of the night) our butler, who introduced himself as Arrun, told us to pack up our belongings as there had been a mistake, this is not our room. So we repacked and headed out into the restaurant, Arrun seemed a bit confused and asked if we were sure we checked, I assured him we did, that's how we got a key. He looked back over paperwork, "you arrived early and asked for upgrade?" "no, we sat and had a juice, a gentleman took our passports and said we could checkin as a room is available". Arrun said actually we could have Suite 12 so we took our things back into the room and got some sleep. Weirdest checkin experience, no apology, just confusion I think. Anyway we woke at 11am to join chef for the most amazing personal cooking class!!! Sri Lankan Crab Curry, the best dish we ate all holiday! We cooked it right in the kitchen with chef and he explained all the ingredients and what he was doing. Really, really oustanding experience and a big thank you to staff for organising for us, it was a real privledge. Washed down with Lion beer it really was great seafood cooked with love. The room was beautiful, most stunning bathtub I've ever seen. Room was large with all mod cons and opened onto the pool. Unfortuantly this area was being worked on while we there, so men and power tools all day. Didn't venture out but it look very nice, under a big mango tree I think. Breakfast is included, and is very luxurious including fresh baked croissants, tropical fruit, eggs and even a local options of hoppers and curry (yum). The hotel is on the man drag, so you can't get lost, check out Barefoot Cafe which is nearby for lunch and souvenirs. Tuk tuks park out front and are a cheap way to get around. Make sure you ask whether they know where they are going, we had one take us to the Rugby Club instead of Golf Club, he got lost but 20mins late for our session we got there :-) Have drinks at the Galle Face of course. Drinks in the front courtyard of Casa are delightful too, tropical retreat. On our departure Arrun told us the night before that he had organised a cheaper transport (40US instead of 75US) and we were to pay the driver direct. So we withdrew the rupees that night especially and headed out to the airport on time the following morning. 15mins into trip Arrun rang the driver and asked him to take us back to hotel as there was a billing mistake. The hotel had billed us for the 75US driver and he was waiting so we had to change cars and then head back out to airport. This was very annoying, the trip to the airport took 1.45hrs as it was and Arrun had just done our leaving bill and must of seen it. Arrun, you are a really lovely guy and I know you mean well and are keen to please, but just take time, don't rush and think things through properly, what is best for the guest :-) We really liked Colombo and loved the feeling of Casa, traditional and modern all in one. When we are back we are staying here so much nicer than sterile chain hotel, had real personality.

Room Tip: Suite 12 on the ground floor is very large and opens out onto pool but is next to restaurant. Ask fo...

My friend and I really enjoy our food, and we’ve eaten from some of the best restaurants in the world, and the “HVN” at casa was of world class standard. The service by the restaurant staff was attentive and the food..... simply magical. I wish i could steal away their Chef and keep him at my home. :) Better keep him under the watchful eye of a guard casa.......
Try the teas in their bar.... very nice.
We only stayed for one night, and were very sad to leave. Next time around I will be there for longer.
