Brilliant!!! Just arrived in Colombo from Maldives. It was our first meal in Sri Lanka.
Nice location, good eating environment (well it is not for romantic).
Went with my parents (Chinese...who are extremely loyal to authentic Chinese food) and my husband (British... who is extremely open to all kinds of cuisine). Normally it is really really hard to make everyone satisfied but this time is definitely an exception.
Although the price is expensive compared with the local expense (I heard Rs. 20 can buy a portion of roti on street), it is seriously cheap for anyone from Europe or from far east.
All curries we tried are very very nice. My parents normally cant get used to any curry dish until tried the dishes here. Their comment is that "never thought Sri Lankan curries can be so delicious."
Elu Mas soup
Fish Head Curry [huge portion] <---- My husband's favourite
Jaffna Crab Curry [huge portion]<---- My dad's favourite
Hathmaaluwa (Veg) Rs. 390 <---- My mum's favourite
Isso Beduma (Lagoon prawns tempered with spices, Ginger, Garlic, Onions and Tomato) Rs. 500 <---- My favourite!!! I ordered another portion after everyone finished... i am still sooooo full and the prawns are swimming in my brain...
Surprisingly the portion for the curry is pretty small. Normally 4 curries for 2 men. The exception is the signature curry which is huge, e.g. the fish head curry, the Jaffna crab curry... No matter whether it is big or small, the taste is superb.
My personal suggestion is that order Roast Pan (i.e. bread) for curry instead of rice, if you normally prefer rice with curry like me.
