cinnamon group of hotels need to work on their customer management big time, this was our second stay at the hotel at the span of two weeks since we loved the convenience of in-house restaurants, pools and the amazing view. upon arrival we requested a pool view room but were given a third floor room with a dozen stains on carpet and children's handprints all over window, i refused to accept the room after which they took us to the second choice of fifth floor room which stank like mutton, it has an entrance which was shared which means hello stranger every time you go to the bathroom. AS IT WAS OUR HONEY MOON I REQUESted to see the manager who didn't give a damn , i asked him to give me a room that was IMMACULATE,POOL view, No shared door or corner room. LO AND BEHOLD he again gave me a corner room after 45 minutes of waiting which had stains on bed sheet and black marks on my pillow , at this point i was sad and upset i reiterated and he said the hotel was hundred percent occupied . this room had a lovely view of the parking on our honey moon.i asked him if i could speak to someone as i have never ever had to change hotel rooms. we were shown hotel rooms offensively bad and i can guarantee they had been rejected by earlier guests. the name of the manager GUILIAMA the service manager and he advised me to speak to mr vonaught. it FELT LIKE I was staying in a 2 star hotel. through out the night we heard a man coughing through the shared door. IMAGIne paying 200 dollars a night for this. in the morning i heard mr Vonaught was on leave a fact that guiliama mustve knows. i finally spoke to another GSM on reception who gave us a room that was clean and had a pool view. Guiliana didn't really give a damn we were on our honey moon and we were coecered into staying in a shabby dirty room exploiting the fact we came from an exhausting eight hour drive.the service staff and by that i mean housekeeping were good and staff at in-house hotel and spas were nice, its a shame the front desk people insist on treating you like REJECTED ROOM FILLERS to forcibly accommodate you in rooms no other guest will take.we were shown THREE CORNER ROOMS WITH SHARED door despite saying we didn't want those from the get go

Room Tip: don't get a room on 5th floor,it smells like something died in there.

Thank you for staying at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo and for your feedback.

At the outset please accept my sincere apologies for the inconveniences faced by you. I sincerely regret for the manner in which the Manager dealt with your needs and for the embarrassment and disappointment caused to you.

Your feedback was discussed in detail at today’s management meeting and the Director Rooms Division, Mr. Chris Quyn will be carrying out trainings and corrective processes with the Guest Service Managers and the Managers involved.

Whilst we thank you for bringing these issues to our notice, we do hope it will not deter you from staying with us if you choose to travel to Sri Lanka in the future. Please do get in touch with my office directly, before you plan to stay with us again.

Once again please accept my sincere apologies.

Best regards

Very big hotel with a business feel but extremely comfortable. Extensive high quality breakfast buffet and several restaurants of which ate in the fish, Italian and Oriental restaurants, all of which were very good. Minor point was only one bath robe in the room and second towel is very small-apparently an issue when using it to wrap wet hair in!

We booked this hotel for two nights after reading the excellent reviews on trip advisor. Our room overlooked the pool, it was a good size and had everything you would need. Good mini bar, iron and ironing board, room safe and even daily news paper delivered to your door each morning.

The hotel is very well maintained, however some areas although well kept are beginning to look a bit dated. The hotel grounds are lovely, excellent poolside bar so nice you wont want to leave.

There is a wide choice of restaurants catering for everyone's taste.
We had an evening meal at the Taprobane Restaurant, buffet style but so much choice you don't know what to choose.
We had lunch in the British bar Cheers, the fish and chips are amazing, so good we had them again the next day. (Would give the roast of the day a miss) The bar has a smoking area, it feels odd as we have not been able to smoke in pubs in the UK for years.
Buffett breakfast again excellent and very good value.

The only negative point, we enquired about booking the hotel car to take us on to our next hotel further along the coast. The price we were quoted by the Cinnamon was almost double the cost of the taxi right outside the hotel. Needless to say we booked the taxi.
Good location and would love to stay again.

I have been staying in this hotel for many year. I prefer staying in this hotel in near future too. In Sri Lanka I have stayed in almost all the 5 Star hotels but I liked this hotel the most. The friendly staff, location, health club, food all good.

The Cinnamon is a solid choice for a hotel in Colombo. You can walk to the ocean across the street and take a stoll along the "boardwalk" to enjoy the ocean breezes. The hotel is adjacent to a shopping mall with a food court and grocery store on the bottom level which is super convenient. The buffet breakfast is excellent with many choices. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The fitness club is adequate although a bit dated. It's also quite warm and humid (not air conditioned?)! The rooms are nice with comfortable beds and pillows. My main complaint about the room is the placement of the light switches for the bathroom which are in the hall outside the bathroom, not inside.
