“Just okay!”

Rooms are average clean, but small , fridge on the floor, TV and internet connections not good. Food was good if you order ala carte but breakfast buffet was so so.. There is a bar but nothing special and feeling that you are in a mood to drink more however staff was friendly.

The check in process is very traditional and annoying if you are a traveller who came from a long journey.

The hotel is recommended for a business traveller on contract projects but not for couple or a person on holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the Indian ocean... Back side was a viewed of the roof of local residence.

Beautiful view of the sea from the rooms. Average breakfast spread, good restaurant though with limited options. Walking distance from the beach and also one of the best beach restaurants Beach Wadiya... Very friendly and helpful staff who take good care of you. Not the best place for a business traveler but if you are on a holiday and a romantic one then its very good. VERY VERY small rooms and bathrooms without even a place to keep your suitcases... The railway station is closeby so you can hear the trains all night and thats not what you want

This is quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Upon arrival, our room was not ready and both families in our party had to wait a good deal of time before being shown to our room. The room was spacious but very dirty!! Changing rooms was not an option according to the front desk, who were very friendly mind you, so we had no choice but to spend Christmas Eve in the room that was booked for us. The food was overpriced and the beach was full of litter (broken bottles, syringes, diapers, etc). Maybe this was a bad day for the hotel that day but I will not go back and find out.

This was the second hotel we stayed in while in SL for the cricket.
The photo is a bit misleading as you'd need to cross a busy railway line to get to the beach, but it is an enviable view of the ocean if you are lucky enough to have a sea view room (we had a room at the back, looking out over the city, which was fine/interesting apart from the resident howling dog below).
The apartment thing was weird. You get thrown in with two other couples (etc) and although you have your own rooms, there's a shared communal area. That would have been fine if we'd been in with others we had got to know on the cricket trip but we had strangers with us. We could smell cigarette (and other!) smoke much of the time, which was horrible, and had some very selfish 'sharers' yelling and messing about at silly o'clock.
The uninspiring bar (view of the bins, shouty telly) was a bureaucratic nightmare. Four people processing paperwork to one serving - slowly. Order at least half an hour before you want a drink. Or avoid totally.
Food in the restaurant, including breakfast, was very good, fresh and varied. The wine list was promising, too, but we found that one night after the Barmy Army landed, they had run out of many of the wines listed. Funny that.
The smokers congregated by the semi-open pool. Not a good mix.
There are two computers in the business centre but net access was slow to non-existent. The ATM was very handy and taxis (tuk-tuks) are lined up outside to whisk you anywhere.
In short, all right but nothing more. I'd probably stay there again if I was out at a sporting fixture all day and just using it as a base.

Room Tip: Book the whole apartment to avoid sharing with strangers.

Lower cost than the other posh hotels in Colombo, this little hotel has it all - sea views and the sound of surf at night from most rooms, pretty good restaurant, a travel desk and a fine little pool but best of all is the attention that the staff give if there is a question or a problem. The rooms are fine and very tidy. The hot water never stopped coming. Most rooms have a proper bath tub, and there are decent toiletries. The electricity stayed on. Although the airconditioners were on the side of 'loud and innefective', there is a nice ceiling fan to make the air move. Each room has a tiny balcony where hopefully smokers will take theselves and their smelly habit. Through sites like "AsiaRooms.com" the rate seemed to be very reasonable at about US$75 a night ...but wait - theres more..silly Government and other taxes bought that amount to just under $100 a night - still not bad for this town of high rollers and flash rooms. I stayed twice for a few days each time in April-May 2012 and enjoyed the simpleness of the Global. There is a bar near the lobby (in which I think the aincient fluids must have gathered because ones nostrils are assaulted by the smell of stale Arack and/or excretia each time I went in there) but the rest of the place was clean and tidy and most welcoming and smelt good. From doorman to room service they try to please at the Global Towers and I will return unless they go crazy with their prices.

Room Tip: As the train line runs out front, ask for the side rooms or the back rooms (no sea view but a bit qu...

We spent a week at Global Towers when we were in Colombo to watch the Sri Lanka v England Cricket test match, and we were really impressed.

We had a two bedroom apartment, which was huge, with a balcony and a great sea view - very well equipped, and spotlessly clean. Well worth paying the extra compared to a normal room, and room prices compared very favourably to the usual 4 star hotels.

Service was a bit erratic - staff were very friendly most of the time, but the front desk wasn't great when under pressure, and although the food in the restaurant was very good, the service wasn't great. The buffet breakfast was quite expensive (unless you intended to gorge yourself and not eat for the rest of the day), but the 24 hour pastry shop just outside reception was good value for short eats and very convenient. There is also an ATM just outside reception, which was very useful.

Would definitely use this hotel again if I was visiting Colombo
