The best area is the open area where inmates are not caged. don't forget to go evening to watch the elephants dance.

I went to the Zoo in Colombo; I made it a habit, going to the Zoo in any country I visit.
Most people go to the Zoo because they like animal, well this Zoo is not for these people.
The animals look like they are suffering.
The cages are small, the elephants are chained in the front leg and in the back leg, they cannot move forward or backwards.
There almost no special animal. The only attraction is the white tiger.
The whole place looks like it’s in construction.
Very Very poor.
The admission fees written are 2000 Rope, but I guess that is only for Europeans and Americans, because the guy in front of me told me to give a different country and so I pay only 500 Rope.
I don’t mind paying the 2000 but it doesn’t look good.

Very old zoo; if you are animal lover, then it may be distressing. They do their best, but it really needs some major works done to it to bring it up to world standards for the animals.
The elephant show was the highlight and enjoyed the experience even though there was not many foreigners in the zoo.

A traditional zoo with caged animals but then the British built it...in Colonial times. A good day out and cheap but the surroundings, Dehiwela, is rapidly getting absorbed into Colombo!
