“good location, spacious rooms”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Well, I saw little evidence of the fabulous service others were raving about, but it certainly is a large, well appointed room. Having a plug in water kettle with coffee and tea was great especially as there is not restaurant in the hotel. The room was poorly swept and when I came there was sand in the shower and on the room floor. It was late, so I left it alone, assuming they would clean the next day especially as a BIG sign left in the room said that the hotel policy is to clean the room everyday and guests should let the desk know if they DON'T want their room cleaned. Well, I returned the next day, late from a long day of work and found to my horror that the room was untouched! The explanation at the desk was that the guests don't like their room cleaned so unless specifically asked, they don't clean rooms!!!
The downside of the hotel is the noise. The windows don't shut very well and the constant strong breeze from the ocean rattles one window constantly. I would have left it open, except that it faces the house right across the narrow street. Starting at about 2 a.m.on the second night, in addition to my window, a door began to slam in the house and it slammed all the way until the morning. I have no idea how the young boys at the desk slept through that noise, but since I let myself out and back in every morning, without them stirring, I guess they sleep sound!
It is just off Galle road and right next to the ocean, so the location is convenient for a walk or for a quick bite in one of the many excellent restaurants - my most favourite the Green house is just a few minutes walk...

We stayed at Taibah Boutique Hotel, the last two nights of our trip to Sri Lanka! We stayed in a clean room, which has the best shower and the most comfortable bed in Sri Lanka! The hotel staff was helpful and friendly, and the service from the hotel manager and his staff was superb.

Stayed for a few nights at the end of a month in Sri Lanka. We were extremely happy with our stay. The highlight is the helpfulness of the manager and his staff. Made quite a lot of effort to ensure we had everything we could need (or want), even arranging a shower for us later in the day before our late night flight and securing a taxi to the airport at a good rate in comparison to other quotes we had. Room was spotless and newly done, fantastic new bathroom and shower facilities. Everything worked perfectly except for one occasionally flickering bulb (and our experience of SL hotels is that something is always broken or not quite working right). Location is good in Colombo District 3, only 50m from Galle Rd, walking distance to several decent restaurants and reasonable tuk-tuk rides to most places of interest. The price is a little high but in line with other Colombo hotels, however Taibah offers excellent value for the price relative to other Colombo places
Note that you need to call the reception 10 mins prior to wanting hot water as they need to switch the units on (saving energy). This is not really a problem except that they forgot to mention it when we arrived so we thought the hot water was kaput. Not really a negative just to keep in mind.
Only minor negatives - the flickering bulb and our view of the building site out the back. Slight smell of mothballs in the room. Nit-picking really.
We would 100% stay here again if we land back in Colombo. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms out the back have view of building site, but may cost less.

In a city of very expensive, overpriced hotels, the Taibah presents an unusual sense of good value in Colombo. Located down a quiet backstreet near to the coast, this is a well-run hotel, ideal for a short stopover.

We stayed for one night in order to catch the early train to Polonarruwa the next morning. Sadly the first room we were given had a terrible smell owing to the building work taking place behind the hotel. We asked to move and without hesitation, they offered us a second room. Sadly the aircon was making a racket, so they gave us a free upgrade to a much larger room, again without any fuss whatsoever.

We ordered takeaway as we were too tired to venture out, and the manager even brought our food to our room and returned with our change a short time later.

This hotel is not the Ritz by any means, but is perfect for a short stay to explore Colombo, or for backpackers in need of a great value place to sleep for the night, with excellent service and a comfy bed.

Room Tip: Front facing may be better
